Workshop Outcomes By the end of this workshop, you should be able to: • describe the role of the volunteer coordinator • analyse how clubs use volunteers and the implications for your club • review how clubs have developed the recruitment, retention and rewarding of volunteers • develop the roles and responsibilities of your volunteers • develop an action plan to further enhance the recruitment, retention and rewarding of volunteers both internally and externally to the club.
Volunteer Coordinator (VC) • How do clubs recruit volunteers at present? • Does anyone fulfil the role of VC? • Why is the role of VC important? • What does the VC do? • What can the VC do? • Where does the VC fit within the club structure?
Different ‘Types of Sport’ • Those who own facilities (rugby, cricket, golf, tennis etc) • Those who have to hire facilities (basketball, swimming, volleyball etc) • Those who are nomadic in club meetings and competitions (cycling, orienteering etc) • Some sports span two groupings (hockey, lacrosse, gymnastics etc).
Management of Volunteers • Get off to a good start with new volunteers (induction) • Set standards • Practical support • Teamwork • Training and development • Listening.
