SecondLanguageLearnerStrategies. Involves the following: 1º idea: DEFINING "SECOND LANGUAGE LEARNING AND USE STRATEGIES" • Second Language Learning • Second Language Use Stategies Retrieval strategies Rehearsal strategies Cover strategies Communication strategies
2º idea:TERMINOLOGICAL AND CONCEPTUAL ISSUES IN NEED OF CLARIFICATION • Cohen establishes five problematic issues that have arisen in the learning strategyfield: 1) The Distinction Among Strategies, Substrategies, Techniques, and Tactics. 2) Learning Strategies as Conscious or Unconscious. 3) Differing Criteria for Classifying Language Learning Strategies. 4) Broadening the Concept of Strategic Competence. 5) Linking Learning Strategies to Learning Styles and Other Personality-Related Variables.
3º idea: DEALING WITH THE PROBLEMATIC ISSUES IN A STRATEGY-BASEDINSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM • Cohen gives an example of how the problematic issues are dealt with in a program of strategy based instruction at the university level. • Cohen has considered the five problematic issues mentioned in the previous slide, which are related to the conceptualization and use of these terms, and has briefly demonstrated ways that one program for strategy-based instruction has dealt with these issues in the field.
