Proposed Revision to Fashion and Textiles • Proposed: increase the number of required upper division electives • Original: 9 s.h. upper and lower division electives (total of 21 s.h. upper division credit in major) • New: 9 s.h. upper division electives (total 25 s.h. upper division credit in major) • Rationale: to meet state mandate of 24 s.h. minimum upper division semester hours in a major
Proposed Revision to Political Science • Proposed: addition of new course, POLS 101 (Intro. to Political Theory) • Rationale: students need basic introduction to political theory • Reduction in number of allowable internship hours • Original: 9 s.h. • New: 6 s.h. • Rationale: ensure appropriate degree content is provided • Up to 3 s.h. of credit allowable through Teaching Assistantship (POLS 295), Research Assistantship (POLS 296), or Independent Study (POLS 399)
Proposed Revision to Political Science • Proposed: deactivate the BA degree • Original: BA 33-39 s.h. • New: BS 36-42 s.h. • Rationale: very few students were applying for BA degree, and requirements are duplicative
Proposed Revision to International Development Studies Major
Proposed Revision to International Development Studies • Proposed: increase required upper division credits from 21 to 24 s.h. • Rationale: meet State Ed. mandate for minimum upper division semester hours • Proposed: Add ECON 112 as alternative option to ECON 110 (original) • Proposed: Move ACCT 100 to “related work” from “required courses” • Proposed: change rules for electives • Original: “Must be from at least two subject areas” • New: “Two must be POLS, the third must be from a subject area other than POLS. One of the three courses must have a service-learning (SL) attribute” • Rationale: greater focus on POLS content; SL will connect students to general practice in development field
Proposed Revision to International Development Studies • Proposed: two capstone options • Capstone Seminar: POLS 368 (original) or POLS 382 (new) • New: Internship (with appropriate IDS content) or Study abroad (department approved) • Rationale: better preparation for students going into IDS field
Proposed Revision to International Studies • Proposed: Add Research Methods requirement to Original Program (no track) • Proposed: Remove “Economics and Geography” electives (9 s.h.) for two new tracks (discussed on next slide)
Proposed Revision to International Studies • Proposed: Add two new tracks in addition to original program • Conflict and Cooperation • International Society • Original Program (no track) • Rationale: distinguish further from International Development Studies (IDS) major; provide more international studies content focus; aid in advising students
