Industrialization: Who and What does industrialization affect? How? Anjum Kazi 9th Grade – 2 May 1st, 2012
What is Industrialization? *The large- scale introduction of manufacturing, advanced technical enterprises, and other productive economic activity into an area, society, country, etc.
Environment: a) Positive: -bring about the rise of large towns, and thus people can enjoy a convenient material life.-The exploitation of natural resources can bring us much more benefit. Things Affected by Industrialization:
b) Negative: • -Deforestation • Production of toxics products, i.e. pesticides and herbicides • cause pollution, noise, and then result in many health problems of people • Global Warming • kills plants like ornamental plants , medicinal plants , and etc.
Global Warming As fossil fuels are burnt and non-renewable resources are used. It added to the 300-million-year-old carbon to the atmosphere. People are now using more energy (generated by burning fossil fuels) in their day-to-day lives and because they can!
2) people: Housing was over crowded (often 10 people in one room) and often damp. There was little sanitation People got ill often and died easily due to these harsh conditions. Poor diet, pollution and long working hours in factories weakened people’s resistance to diseases. Lack of fresh water. Water was often contaminated with sewage.
3) Medicine New factories and better technology could produce more sophisticated medical implements, such as fine syringe needles, or powerful lenses for microscopes. This helped in many vital medical purposes.
4) Loss of habitat *Due to industrialization animals lose their habitat as a result of deforestation. Huge areas of forest land are deforested to build new buildings, roads, etc.
5) Extinction • The extinction of animals can be attributed to an increase in deforestation to make way for large-scale industrial farming and human settlement. It can also be attributed to receding ice caps in the case of polar bears as a result of increasing global warming, expedited by industrialization, i.e. Polar Bears. • After an animal loses it’s habitat , by deforestation, it searches for another one to adapt to. In this process, it maybe eaten by it’s predator or die of starvation.
Conclusion • Industrialization affects the environment by using it natural resources, adding many harmful chemicals to it and killing it’s plants and innocent animals. • It gave disease a chance to spread because of the limited space and conditions people had to live under. • It allowed us to advance in the technological and medical fields, giving us a chance to produce vaccines and proper tools needed for treatment.
