Agenda What is PowerPivot How to obtain and install PowerPivot Additional Integration Features Technical Components We will also have a demo of iVobis from 9-9:45
PowerPivot Advantages Ability to work with data from multiple sources Ability to work with millions of rows of data – all from your desktop (this can be a disadvantage as well in my opinion) Share this data within the Excel environment
Terminology Data Source can be SQL Server, Access, Excel, SSRS, MDX, CSV, oData, other DAX – Data Analysis Expressions is the PowerPivot language SSAS – SQL Server Analysis Service (PowerPivot is a scaled down or light version of this in my opinion)
Technical Information Requires Office 2010 Windows 7 64 bit is not required but recommended for files with millions of rows SQL Server Analysis Services SharePoint Services
Demo Demo of the product • Install PowerPivot • See it in use FOLLOW-UP ITEMS • Show how this is used with SharePoint 2010 • Show connectivity and security modeling • What about a DBF or DBC?
Additional PowerPivot Info • Where is the data • Imported data stored in the AVF • PivotCache in Excel • When uploading to SharePoint you can set the Data Refresh • Integration with SharePoint and PowerPivot will require Enterprise Client License and SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition or higher
