Mission To provide an integrated management system for sustainable agriculture, rural development and use of natural resources towards improved quality of life for all in Gauteng through: • Increased competitiveness of Gauteng agri-food industry by increasing competencies, sales and equality; • Champions of animal health and welfare in a cost-sharing/recovery model; • Sustainable use of environment with the challenge of restoring and enhancing profitable and sustainable ecosystems, improving bio-diversity and landscape, and providing opportunities for access in the countryside; and, • Co-ordination of rural development with respect to agriculture, environment, education, health, transport, infrastructure and other social services.

Purpose and Objectives of the LandCare Conditional Grant • The LandCare Conditional Grant as implemented by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) focuses on restoring and managing natural resources, and creating jobs through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). • The LandCare Conditional Grant constitutes 36% of the GDARD EPWP operational budget for 2011/2012 and is implemented by the Sustainable Resource Management Component.
Purpose and Objectives of the LandCare Conditional Grant Cont… • The objectives of the GDARD SRM Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) are to create jobs for women, the youth, disabled, men and develop skills & promote human development from the environment for the environment through: • Creating jobs for women, the youth, disabled, men; • Skills transfer; • Alien vegetation eradication; • Wetland rehabilitation; • Combat soil degradation; • Fire management; and • River clean-up.
