NAMI Gulf Coast2004 Annual Report • Mission: NAMI Gulf Coast supports families through individual and group interaction, educates family members and professionals about serious mental illness and advocates for services for people with mental illness. • Vision: NAMI Gulf Coast’s vision is to eliminate the stigma attached to mental illness and have it be viewed by the community and the medical profession with the same empathy and support as any chronic illness.

Directors: A Director shall serve for so long as he or she serves as an officer of his or her Chapter commencing on the date of his or her election as an officer, or until his or her successor officer is elected and qualified. A Director may serve for any number of terms, consecutive or otherwise. The term of the office of an individual Director shall terminate upon the effective date of his or her resignation, upon his or her death, or upon his or her removal from office. Chairperson: The Board of Directors shall elect from among its members a Chairperson, who shall preside at meetings of the Board of Directors and shall have such powers and perform such duties as shall be defined by the Board of Directors. Such chairperson shall serve for a period of one (1) year commencing on the date of his or her election or until his or her successor has been elected and qualified. Vice-Chairperson: The Board of Directors shall elect from among its members a Vice-Chairperson, who shall preside at meetings of the Board of Directors in the absence of the Chairperson and shall have such powers and perform such duties as shall be defined by the Board of Directors. Such Vice-Chairperson shall serve for a period of one (1) year commencing on the date of his or her election or until his or her successor has been elected and qualified. Chapter Officers: The officers of each Chapter shall be elected by the Members of the Chapter for which they will serve at the annual meeting of such Members. The Presidents and Treasurers will be elected in odd numbered years and the Vice-Presidents and Secretaries shall be elected in even number years. NAMI Gulf Coast Bylaws
Our Situation • Our families need to know about the disease, it’s effects, and constantly changing treatment in order to help their relatives. • If our family member becomes overwhelmed, they will become sick also, and their help will be ineffective.

What NAMI does during the year! “Consumers with the brain disorders have few opportunities for social interaction, so NAMI provides(throughout the year ), social functions such as: • Christmas Dance • Spring Fling • Halloween Carnival • Thanksgiving Dinner • Fill-A-Sack Tradition • Weekly Craft Days in 3 locations • Financial Assistance is also available through “Flex-Spending”
We Are making Progress • This past year NAMI received the final approval from HUD for the apartment project, “Westover Cove”. The construction will be completed in mid 2005. NAMI received a grant from Swalm Foundation to furnish the Community Room and the office for the on- site manager. NAMI also received Community Block Grand Funds for a 15 passenger van. • This will allow 14 people with major mental illness to have safe, affordable housing.
How We Get Our Money • NAMI operates mostly on grants and private donations • NAMI has only one major fund raiser a year, The Annual Gala to raise funds for our programs.
