  2. This presentation aims to explain… • What D@SH is • Why we’re doing D@SH • Who is supporting D@SH • How to start using D@SH • Setting up your D@SH record • Creating new entries, subscribing, etc. • How D@SH fits into the academic supervision process

D@SH - What and why? • D@SH is for keeping and sharing academic supervision records electronically • D@SH keeps these records out of personal email inboxes • D@SH enables a longitudinal view of supervisory activity • D@SH is private for students but visible to academic staff • D@SH embeds ‘digital literacy’ into the curriculum as required by University strategy

  4. D@SH- Who and when? • D@SH is built with Cardiff University centrally supported systems • D@SH roll-out is supported and evaluated by Mike Johnson • D@SH trialled successfully with the Oman programme and is now used across the School

  5. D@SH - Where and how? • Login to Learning Central • A D@SH module appears in module list • Select ‘View’

  6. Staff view on entering theDigital Academic Supervision Hub Search by student’s name where there are large numbers. Click on the name in the list to enter that student’s D@SH Note: The student must have at least opened the D@SH before staff can add a message. Students yet to do this are listed in the ‘Unstarted Assignments box’

  8. Students subscribing to D@SH • Students must subscribe to their D@SH record to receive email alerts of activity by supervisors • Select ‘Subscribe’ (above the ‘Add New Entry button) • Tick the box and select ‘Submit’

  10. Titles of your entries • Please use the module code in titles. • This helps to identify what the entry is about and distinguish it from the others in the future • Titles are included in email notifications

  11. Posting to D@SH Type your message into the editor Select the upload button to add an attachment Select the Browse button to locate your file Select the ‘Save & Exit’ button when you’re done

  13. To display your picture Adding a picture helps to personalise your use of the D@SH system Select ‘Settings’ to add, change or remove your profile icon

  14. Tutors please note… Upload feedback to the intended student: • Interruptions may prevent immediate return of work • Navigating back to the student’s D@SH record is time-consuming Solution: Each D@SH record has a unique Web address. Record this for navigation later.

Changes for 2014 Students notify staff of new entries to D@SH, including a link to their entry in the email. • Supervision records all in one place • Out of office replies enable students to take further action Academic supervisors overwhelmed with email alerts D@SH did not forward ‘out of office’ email replies to students

  16. Getting a link to D@SH Right-click here for the additional menu… Select here for the link to your D@SH record

  17. Adding the link to your email Adding a space at the end of the link should make it ‘live’
