Kady Combs Unicorn Stables (Qtr. 2) (Qtr. 1) I go over to the Northwestern Rehabilitation Center and watch the staff do their work with the patients. The patients explain to me what happened to them, and the reasoning on why they are in therapy. The physical therapists go over exactly what the problems are, what they are working on, and how they are doing it. We also talk about my future and what I want to proceed doing, Also, Amy gave me two packets to read about being coming a PT or a PTA.
Meghan Draper This quarter I have learned quite a lot about myself as a person and an artist. I sat down for many hours writing lyrics and singing, and lyrics are a deeper look into my head and helps me become a more organized thinker by getting my emotional experiences out. . . . .I look forward to pushing myself further next quarter to writing more often and sharing some original music and lyrics. Inquiry: Lyrics & Music Composition
Bethanie Hayes Note: Bethanie has just enrolled in CBL and writes, “Working with the daycare is very exciting. The children are already attached to me, especially this one little girl named Elisa. She waits for me every day and always asks what I'm reading every time. I have planned two activities for Friday.” Brenda’s Giggles and Grins
Evan Oliver Hull’s Automotive I really like working over at Hulls. My grandfather and father stopped in one day. I've been learning a lot. I've learned that when a customer comes in with a problem like his saw isn't running for a long time, it could be a problem with a fuel line or the carborater.
Aaron Sweet Inquiry: Farming & Sugaring I put up wire in the woods and put tree guard on the wire so the wire doesn't grow into the tree. I put up fence around a field for my cows.. . . Recently, I’'ve been pulling out pipe and tying it up and putting tees in it from other lines running into it. I've been tightening up the wire, too.
Hailey Burrington A couple days ago . . . we started changing stuff over for the seasons. We brought all of the costumes down from upstairs in the back storage room, and we began to tag them. Most of them were outfits for little kids, or they didn't have a whole costume, so we decided to just sell everything separately. We also decided to put a witch-type costume on the maniquen that sits out on the main floor. Classic Consignments
Stetson Garey The last weeks I've been helping Ray clean more windows and put them up on the front porch. After that I've been moving the furniture from the front porch into the barn. Wednesday I should be doing something in the house, an opportunity to explore and learn a bit more about that big house. Renovations at The 1906 House
Kolby Gerrow Today at Bonds I returned parts back to the warehouse. When I was done I stocked the windshield wipers and batteries; and I also mopped the floors and swept the back room. When I was done doing those things I went to the back of the warehouse and sorted out most of the parts. Finally, I worked the front counter resister. Always grabbing parts and restocking as usual and running the register from week to week, I keep busy! Bond Auto Parts
Hannah Tiffany Inquiry: Caregivers & Alzheimers (Qtr. 2) I will have more time in the next few weeks to write on my page about my Alzheimer’s project at Brownway . . . Last time I went to Early Childhood Development the preschoolers were there. They were in the library so I couldn't really interact with them much that day. They were reading books and watching videos about the alphabet..
Noah Bartholomew I'd like to begin thinking about what I can do in the field of mechanics after high school. . . . At Scott's I have been working with a lot of transmission and motor work. I have been learning a lot about gear ratios and timing. Scott Joyal & Sons
Kody Gregoire Note: Kody is moving from B & N Sales & Repairs to the Lely Center soon. In the meantime he writes, “I changed the spark plug and fix the breaks on a go-cart as well as painted go-cart, We also tried to get it started, but there wasn't enough back pressure. We fixed the pull cord by adding more cord to it and then put in fresh gas. I fixed the throttle cable, too. Godin Mechanical Lely Center of Vermont

Jake Johnson & Ethan McNall Mountain View Auto Body and Sign Design Note: Jake and Ethan are currently busy making a documentary film about duck hunting. They also write recently, “We put the four-wheeler up on the lift and took the front bumper and the plastics off. We are going to replace the whole front end. Then after that we are replacing the rear end and doing the same thing there.”
Brianna Marshall & Christine McKinstry Classic Consignments (Brianna) Today at the shop I got to use the computer a lot more. I was much faster and more confident in myself. The owner was having a meeting so me and Christine did all the work. We put the new arrivals away, tags clothes and helped out with getting ready for the stores fashion show they will be in. (Christine) Today Bri and I . . . helped out not only with tagging/putting away, but also multiple customers and the register. Our boss recently got a new computer and printer, since her other one crashed, so now we have more space to work. With our clothes we don't accept, or that are past their terms; they get donated and go out to homeless or other types of shelters.
Justin Soule Today I was busy splitting wood. I have been very busy trying to get all the wood done before the snow begins to fall. My CCV classes are going great as well as my civics class. In case you were still wondering, I do not hunt. I never wanted to take the time and go get my license, so I never did. Like I said though, I have been very busy juggling my work schedule as well as my school schedule, which doesn't leave me with much time. My college courses leave me with lots of homework when I get home from work. Inquiry: Maple Sugaring in Montgomery
Alexis Benoit Bed & Biscuit My experiences at the bed and biscuit just keep getting better! The other day I got to groom and bath an Australian Shepard dog named Axel. Christina taught me how to properly bathe him, which I got to do by myself. She then taught me how to blow dry him, brush him, trim his nails, and clean him up so he looked handsome. The hair way everywhere. I was covered head to toe in dog hair and it flew around the room. It was cool to use a new machine and learn new things.
Skyler Blaney-Coons My goals this year in Community Based Learning are to train myself to write and keep journals of my work. Some other goals are to just learn new things and appreciate . . . the daily life we get to live. . . . Recently I have been busy with games and keeping up in Pre-calc. I've been really busy in Pre-calc which is a challenging class; but it is good for the brain to be challenged. By keeping up my grades I'm able to play soccer and be on the field for my team. Gervais Farms & Sugar Woods
Caitlyn Callan I was very happy for you and Alexis to meet Bugaboo the Kitty and my horse Griffin. You also got to meet Dora . . . . I like going to my Farm for CBL. It makes me happy and I learn something new everyday. I still think that you should take Mews the baby kitten, she doesn't have worms. Sunny Brook Farm
Liz Firkey Last week I aided Mrs. Flieger. For the most part, I graded papers for a student project . . . The previous weekend, I took the essays and tests for the SAT . . . . I also wrote several more pages in my book. It was a lot of fun, and I'm glad to have ideas flowing again. On the topic of literature, I chose a poem for sharing in Creative Writing. It was "The Spectral Attitudes" by Andre Breton. The poem reminds me of the less than stellar aspect of life." Inquiry: Education at EFMS
Alexa Patsouris Ms. Sherman was out today so she assigned music theory to the class and I helped those who needed it. . . . I don't know what the Pentatonix comment on the Front Page is about, but I am a huge fan of their work. I really wish we had more people at this school interested in a capella so we could have a group of our own. One of the lead singers, Mitch Grassi, is incredibly talented and someone I look up to vocally. His range stretches from Tenor 2 to Soprano 1! Mine is still Tenor 1 to Soprano 2, but I hope I can stretch mine to match his one day. Inquiry: Choral Music & Piano
Jenessa Ryea I am looking forward to begin working at Brenda's Giggles and Grins. It is very special to me to be able to be a part of a child's life as they grow to understand the world more. At this part of their life, it is important that they get good interactions with others. Making a child's brain more active is very interesting to me. I think it is very cool to see how kids act in different situations and to see how each one responds to it. It will be very fun to be reading to the kids and be doing various activities with them. Brenda’s Giggles & Grins
Orion Blackwell It seems that I'm almost done fixing my mothers computer. The computer should hopefully be done by Friday. . . . Last time I brought my mom's computer to get it fixed. The computer is very slow and ads keep popping up. This is because it got a virus. So far we have installed two things to get rid of the virus. The two things are adware cleaner and JRT (junk removal tool). I also replaced a part of a printer but I don't remember what the part was called. Cold Hollow Computing
James Cooper Note: James just joined CBL. He is happy to be working at B & N Sales and Repairs and already tells of talking with customers, repairing weed whackers, and sharpening chains for saws. B & N Sales & Repairs
Shea Sheridan The Makah tribe that live in Washington state, have a culture that revolves around whaling. Over the past hundred or so years, the whaling industry has become increasingly unpopular, to the point in which it is band in many nations. The United States has outlawed whaling to help preserve the whale population. The dilemma is that the US government signed a treaty that give whaling rights to the Makah people. The defeat steams to whether the treaty gives the tribe immunity to the law or the law stands over the treaty. While I stand on the side of nature preservation, I cannot deny the tribe (who gave away about a quarter of a million acres to the US government to preserve their whaling rights) their right to whale under the signed treaty. Inquiry: Native American and Vermont History
Courtney Tatro Last week at Brownway was very hectic. A few of the care givers have decided to leave and get different jobs, so they were short staff. There were only two people working, and one was doing transportation; so it was only Billie Hoe and I on the floor. We had to do all the bathroom checks, showers, and get everyone down to lunch in only a couple hours. We were running around and trying to get everything done. It was pretty challenging because this is usually a two or three person job. I learned a lot about different things because we were doing two jobs together instead of just one. Brownway Residences

Layla Tessier Inquiry: Nursing at Brownway Residences . At Brownway . . . I had to wait for a nurse that I could follow around. While waiting, some of the patients or live-ins walked by me and we had some short conversation starters that, well, didn't really lead to any other conversation, as most of them have dementia or Alzheimer's disease. But, I love the elderly and any conversation is worth having. Once they found me a nurse to follow, we went and did bed checks.
Violet Arcand & Amethyst Duffy (Arcand) . . . when I was there in the class room I was sitting on the floor, and as I got up one of the little boys I was sitting with said "No, I want you to stay here with me.” It just put me in such a better mood! I felt needed buy someone and it just made me feel amazing. (Duffy) Now that I have been going over to the Elementary School for about 2 months I have gained really big relationships with children and with teachers in the classroom. Yesterday I had a very long conversation with Mrs Paradis about what kind of education she got in college and what kind of teaching skills she gained while in college. . . .. She also explained to that she has both a degree in K-6 education and also Special Education. Early Childhood Education at EES
Cameron Geddes Inquiry: Sugaring This is one of my favorite places on the farm. You can see forever on a clear day like yesterday. During the fall it's especially pretty with all the leaves changing. . . . Past CBL classes I have helped my grandpa clear an area for where we will put the hut. I’m also working on a new area of the woods, clearing a trail through it. Today I will check out another new site, looking for places to put a road.
Lindsey Boylan Robinson I've also been learning a lot of about child abuse. One fact I really thought was interesting or sad but mostly sad is that 68% of children are abused by THEIR OWN family members. It's pretty sad to think that somebody would abuse their own family member. Another fact that I thought was interesting is that 2.9 million cases of child abuse are reported every year in the United States. I can't imagine that many children being abused. I think if you know that you have anger problems and can't control yourself, then you need to get some help! Inquiry: Child Abuse
Mahlik Franklin Physical Education at EFHS . . . trying to catch sight of a high, gliding dribble and a man letting the play develop in front of him in slow motion, almost exactly like a coach's drawing on the blackboard, .( from “Fast Break” by Edward Hirsch)
Ryan Harrness In CBL I have been working in the barn more and more, I also have been getting the sugar woods ready for this year. I have been cutting wood off the trails and clearing for the sap lines. I have also been working on our deer camp before I go to the barn. The camp is coming out very nice, all the wood that we are putting in to are camp is wood we have cut off are own land. The process of doing that is going to the woods cutting it out and sawing it on the saw mill. Scenic View Farm & Sugar Woods
Will Houghton . Hannaford Market I read the post. I like Noah's sentence in there, where he hits his friend Scott with a wrench. The poems I read were a little confusing, but after thinking about them a bit, I feel I understand some of what they say. As for what I did recently at Hannafords, I stocked the milk on a few shelves. But for this week I really did not do that much. I talked to a few people there. Oh, and last weekend I went to Maine to visit my brothers. Unfortunately, the trip was not that fun because all my brothers were very busy that weekend. So, I did not see any one, really. We arrived, then just returned home the next day. That's about it. :)
Kaitlyn Murray (Qtr. 1) Today over at The Flying Disc, Ben had us first go over to the bank. While over at the bank, there was a long line so we had to wait for a while. When we got up to the front, the lady was talking to me about my English teacher, Mr. Robtoy, who is her nephew. She mentioned how he can be a tough grader but that he was also very flexible. After the bank, we had to go to the store to pick up two milks and bring them back to the disc. On our way over to the post office, I noticed how much the leaves have been changing and how beautiful they look. The scenery of the leaves along with the fountain in the park make a beautiful scene as you're walking by. Inquiry: Education at EFMS (Qtr. 2)
Dillon Powers I have been working over at Vailloncourts Transport for sometime now. I have learned a lot from them. I have been doing everything from changing tires to working on transmissions and everything in between. Everyday is a new challenge and adventure that I have really enjoyed so far. I get to work with my brother and several other people over at the garage. In Transition
