Doing It On the Cheap • Find geeks to help and get teens involved • Have attendees bring their own equipment • Partner with schools and nonprofits • Use free & low-cost promotion • Get several events out of one setup
Selling it to the Brass • After-school programs are popular with parents • Gets boys (and girls!) in the door • Promotes core services to a tough audience • Good library programs = Good library support
Tips • Turn off some of the lights! Kids don’t want to be reminded of school. • Snacks make a world of difference
If At First, You Don’t Succeed … • You can’t try one program and give up if attendance is low. Keep doing it each month. You can use the same program over and over, and as it gains popularity it will draw more and more people.
