Membership Expansion • Expand activities into dragonboat and outrigger to include ‘weekend warriors’ and persons with a disability and to aim at total family-based sport • Develop progression plan for Sprint which addresses skill development, training, competition and equipment • Aboriginal community development • Integrate canoeing with city recreational programming • Develop programs for seniors – FIT FOR LIFE • Assist struggling clubs • Enhance CANMAS – CKC partnership • Deliver multiple canoeing experiences
Club Development • Develop Club-in-a-Box, Promotional tools, etc. • Foster development of multi-discipline & multi-sport clubs • Develop generic administration tools • Re-package CANOEKIDS for better skill development programs • Usable CKC database system • Facilitate idea sharing between clubs • Develop opportunities for persons with a disability
Coaching • Professionalization of coaching • Standardized contracts; benefits programme • Annual coaching symposium • Integrate Sprint and Dragonboat Coach programming • Opportunities for women and Aboriginal coaches • Enhance education in specialties; ie. disabilities • Mentoring for club coaches • Assist club development such that 40-50 clubs have full-time coaches • Coaching newsletter (web-based)
Officials Development • Recruit former athletes as officials (50% by 2012) • Revise Officials Manual & supplement with standardized training, education and certification • Increase recognition for officials • Emphasize regional/Divisional officials development • Increase number of Int’l competitions in Canada • Provide recruitment education for parents & athletes Under Represented Populations • Provide skill development & competitive programs for persons with a disability and Aboriginal populations
Domestic Competitions • More and better regional regattas • Team boat regattas: WC, DB, C4, K4 • Competition Software for all regattas
NATIONALS THIS YEAR • There were 349 events……a record! • New clubs such as Victoria Youth Paddling Club (Victoria, BC) and Club Cascade (Chelsea, QC.) won medals. • Kamloops, a member for many years, won medals. • Ottawa River competed in age class events. • Pitt Meadows competed with a strong Paracanoe contingent. • Onake competed. • Club de canotage de Shawinigan competed. • For the first time, heats in the PaddleALL men’s K-1 event. • Toronto’s National Dragonboat Club raced in the Jr Men’s War Canoe and vowed to return in fours and war canoe. • Collingwood Dragonboat & Canoe Club raced at Nationals and at Canmas • South Niagara had a healthy contingent paddling at Canmas. • The brand new Cobourg Dragonboat & Canoe Club raced at Canmas

Healthy Club-Divisional System Strengthen the quality of the Club system throughout Canada • Strengthen youth Sprint canoekayak programming • Facilitate the enhancement of the club system through multi-boat/multi-discipline/multi-sport/multi-age programming • Restructure the competition model to fit with LTAD • Strengthen the technical leadership in clubs • Enable clubs to enhance their profile and their contribution in their communities • Expand Paddle All racing • Target development of sprint racing in First Nations communities. • Increase the opportunities for entry into the sport
Strengthen youth Sprint CanoeKayak Programming YEAR ONE • Use LTAD Competition Review to strengthen youth Sprint programming by addressing attrition issues and adding opportunities in the core programme
Facilitate the enhancement of the club system through multi-boat/multi-discipline/multi-sport/multi-age programming YEAR ONE • finish PaddleALL coaching PD module • introduce a novice stable boat programme for kayaks and canoes for Rule Change consideration • use LTAD Competition Review to address the overall interrelatedness of the "multi-discipline "- approach to athlete development over their lifetime. • Promote DB paddling within CANMAS • organize participation in ICF 2012 DB Worlds • Complete "How to Start a Canoe Club" and update all CLUB admin. support materials • Discuss with WW the potential to re-develop CanoeKids as a Generic cross-discipline introductory programme
Restructure the Competition Model to fit with LTAD • Develop consensus on way ahead. • Modify Competitions to improve retention at all levels; emphasis upon under 18; Implement a stable canoe and kayak introductory programme (U12- U14?) in a developmentally appropriate equipment model • develop multiple entry points to youth Sprint programming • use provincial events to promote cross-over paddling • at younger age groups align more closely to stage based events (eliminate /modify age groups?) • develop competition templates for all stages • YEAR ONE • Finalize the LTAD Competition Review and implement a series of Rule Changes or guidelines to effect the recommendations of the Review
Strengthen the Technical Leadership in Clubs • Continue active coaching engagement through various means: mentoring programming; sharing of coach resources: helping new clubs to secure their future, • Encourage access to education programming • Promote opportunities for female coaches: ie. female War Canoe coxes, etc. • continue NCCP investment. • ongoing internet coaching courses • CKC-Prov. partnering for training and PD activities. • National 'Best Practices' events • Learning opportunities for 'Club' coaches
Strengthen the Technical Leadership in Clubs YEAR ONE • complete pilot ELCC Advance Gradation course • continue to implement DB and WC ELCC programme • develop DB course in the Community Stream for DB Corporate teams • finish PaddleALL coaching PD module • implement a pilot individual club head coach mentoring programme
Enable clubs to enhance their profile and their contribution in their communities . • Use DB popularity and other easy-to-use boats to bring new people to clubs (both youth and adults) . • Encourage clubs to develop local strategic partnerships with municipalities, service clubs, private and public sectors • Offer 'services' to communities, ie. Learn-to-paddle programmes • Social Media 'classes' (How best to use.) • Generic Canoe Club Marketing template • Best Practices sessions (feature Club/Municipal)
Expand Paddle ALL Racing YEAR ONE • finish and pilot the PaddleALL/Paracanoe coaching PD module • Promote access to CPC funding programmes • administer CKC PaddleALL Club grants for participation • run a national classifier workshop • run recruitment workshops • network with Special 'O' Canada and other support groups to broaden our reach. • Support strategic relationship building. ie. Soldier On, provincial and national disability organizations
Target development of Sprint racing in First Nations communities. • Lobby for kayak events added to the 2014 NAIG; • partner to assist in delivery of canoeing at 2014 NAIG • continue to partner with provincial programmes; • Promote Rabaska use • use Health and Wellness campaign to promote canoeing in Aboriginal populations: specific programming needed for remote areas; • Key partnership with Provinces
Increase the opportunities for entry into the sport • Support new, small and remote clubs • Use Club mentoring to grow new, small and remote clubs • events appropriate for skill levels • important role of Club Regattas for development and retention (NOTE: local Toronto area problem with no suitable racecourse) • Connect to LTAD review • Encourage DB entry point to paddling and Clubs • Tiered membership structure: Full Club, Assoc. Club, Affiliate organiz., Event member • Novice categories for beginners? • Share Best Practices for recruitment; ie. Wars & Fours
Increase the opportunities for entry into the sport YEAR ONE • Use LTAD competition review to address alternate entry points to the sport • formalize the CLUB mentoring programme • Study a tiered CKC- Sprint membership structure • Within the LTAD Competition Review, study the most appropriate way to manage DB participation within the Sprint Club system and report back to 2012 AGM
Officials • continue to support the Level 3 Divisional Officials programme and ensure national deployment • continue to ensure even access to officials' training • promote former competitive members as officials YEAR ONE • Support Divisional Officials programming to hold Level 3 Officials courses • outreach to former athletes to become Level 3 officials
Increase the volunteer and staff leadership capacity throughout sprint racing • YEAR ONE • revamp Padtrac to fit with Provincial reporting requirements and to be the primary tool for Club administration. • Promote engagement of member Clubs in the CLUB EXCELLENCE programme • establish a Club mentoring programme to support new, small and remote Clubs • Actively engage former members to take on new roles at Clubs, Division and CKC levels.
Reinforce the ‘Canadian’ as a core club development program (including traditional C4 and war canoe). • Add more war canoe events into all programming (regional and national) including mixed gender and 200's in accordance with LTAD objectives. YEAR ONE • Develop a rule change proposal for adding War Canoe 200's and mixed gender events under our LTAD Competition Review.
