Why look at fleets? • Last 25 Years: • Road vehicles +68% • Vehicle miles +81% • Passenger bus miles - 4% • Walking/cycling -24% • Av. mpg +26% • Total CO2 +36%
Why take an Environmental Approach? • It costs money to create Carbon Dioxide • Taxation links to Carbon magnify cost • Savings are real and will improve the bottom line • Fuel Efficient, Clean and Safe are all linked • CSR raises the profile of Transport Carbon • Need to focus on Management of ALL Transport
Why should you be interested? • Can assist with the requirements of NI 185 • Can cut costs and carbon • Can improve compliance r.e. Corporate Manslaughter/Duty of Care • Environmental issues are the primary vehicle taxation drivers for the foreseable future: • Graduated VED (CO2 based) • CO2 based company car Benefit In Kind (BIK) tax • Class 1A NI (12.8%) on BIK • Capital allowances and rental disallowance by CO2 (Beware of >160g/km) • Fuel efficiency is directly linked to CO2 emissions
The Green Fleet Myth • It’s not all just about: • LPG, CNG, Biofuels • Electric Vehicles • Hybrids & ‘City cars’ • Hydrogen fuel cells • A lot can be gained from: • Working with what you have got and improving it
Data is Key • Vehicle data: • Make/Model or Registration Number • Fuel Type • Vehicle Emission Figures (if known or held) • Annual Business Mileage or annual fuel usage (fuel cards) • Policies: • Company Car • Driver policy / handbook • Work Related Road Safety policy and related documentation • CSR Policy
