  2. Background Information • Time of day: At night to make it gloomy. • Purpose: To persuade individuals not to smoke. • Title analysis: If you choose to smoke you lose in every way. You lose time off your life and you can’t partake in a lot of physical activity.

  3. Audience • Who is the intended audience of this advertisement? • Who does it appeal most to? • The intended audience is any group of people. This is used to persuade people not to smoke and others to quit smoking. • This advertisement appeals most to teenagers that can be influenced through peer pressure and any adult.

  4. Point of view/intention • What is the point of view of this advertisement? • What is the intention of this advertisement? • The point of view of this advertisement is a non-smoker. They are trying to tell how bad smoking can be. • The intention of this is to show that smoking can be harmful to your health and life.

  5. Techniques • What techniques are used in this advertisement? • The techniques used are: • A game of hangman played on a black background with white writing. • The game is composed of cigarettes and cigarette buds. • There is a stick person completely filled out before smoking is spelled out completely showing that a smokers life is short.

Composition Factors • Is the light in the advertisement natural or artificial? • I believe the light is artificial to create a gloomy atmosphere for a touchy subject. • What colors are in the advertisement? • The colors are black, gray, white, and orange. These colors also allow for a gloomy atmosphere. White and orange are used to stand out against the background.

Appeals • How does this advertisement appeal to ethos? • This advertisement appeals to ethos because many people smoke and once they see the effects they realize that smoking is not worth losing their life for. • How does this advertisement appeal to logos? • This appeals to logos by the audience knowing that death is a real consequence of smoking.
