  2. June 17, 2010 SPSG approved Task Force formation Purpose : Incorporate wildlife, wild lands, and water data /information into WECC transmission planning models. (10 year, 20 year) EDTF Background

July/August interviews conducted with proposed members and feedback on first draft scope of work Goals Desired expertise and membership Tasks Challenges Recommendations for first meeting Current and future WECC model and constraints Available data Tasks to accomplish scope of work Membership/expertise September 2nd Convening Meeting Convening

  4. 1. EDTF Goals Link between addressing climate change with use of renewable energy and transmission while minimizing impact on wild lands, wildlife and water resources 2. Overview of WECC Model Performance and Schedule WECC provides Planning/Information Support to decision makers WECC does not site lines Environmental data analysis can be conducted one of three 3 ways to express (numeric) Binary (yes or no) Discrete buckets (high, med, low) Analog, (function or number) - Analyze attributes or values and capture “real effect”, Models developed to predict impacts of decisions Convening Meeting

  5. Convening Meeting 3. Examples of Available Environmental Data • WGA State Wildlife Pilots; ultimately cover all western states-- data bases are congruent and interconnected. (J.Harja/M.West) • WGA Water use/supply/stressors . (T.Willardson/A.Schroeder , WGA) • Available GIS spatial data; patchwork of available data from different sources. (P.Crist, NatureServe) • Ecosystem Services offers a framework to assess/value wildlands and wildlife (S. Phillips, The Wilderness Society) • DataBasin: open access to data sets. (J.Strittholt, (Conservation Biology Institute) 4. Review of RETI “scoring process” 5. EDTF Governance

SPSG Executive Committee Select Members Convene EDTF Possible Initial Project: environmental screen applied to existing projects Identify and determine how to access/collect readily available data Explore how to incorporate the data into 2010 TEPPC Study Program For the 10-year plan, present environmental factors on known projects such as FTPL Next Steps

Next Steps • Incorporate lessons from initial project into SPSG recommendations to TEPPC for the 10 year Study Plan Report. • Explore how to incorporate environmental data into resource planning. • Connect with TAS? (Studies WG) • Using lessons learned from Initial Project, incorporate environmental data into 20 year model.
