  3. Byzantium • Origins • Roman Empire was split into 2 Empires • West (Capital Rome) & East (Constantinople) • Established in 474 A.D. • Continuation of the Roman Empire but in the East

Byzantium • Justinian • Crowned Emperor of the Byzantium Empire in 576 A.D • Tried to reunite the Eastern & Western Empires • Justinian’s Code • Justinian took the Roman Laws put them in to a book of laws called “The Body Of Civil Laws” • Made the Eastern Orthodox Church the Official Church of the Byzantium Empire
