Be prepared to walk three-five miles per day. Basic transportation is hiking. Be prepared to do laundry in hotels. It is the first national museum dedicated to the preservation, study, and exhibition of the life, languages, literature, history, and arts of Native Americans. American Folklife Festival The Festival is held outdoors on the National Mall of the United States in Washington, D.C., between 7th and 14th Streets, near the Smithsonian museums. There is no admission charge for Festival events. Visitors should dress for very hot and humid weather. Festival program books, which include daily schedules, will be sold at the site. Visitors may purchase Middle Eastern and other program-related lunches, snacks, and dinners from Festival food concessions. A variety of objects produced byFestival artisans and a selection of related books and recordings will be available at the Festival Marketplace on the Mall-side lawn of the Freer Gallery of Art.
