  2. “When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying. • And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had completed their service, bringing with them John, whose other name was Mark.” Acts 12:12, 25

MARK MESSED UP MARVELOUSLY • Why are you discouraged right now? • Are you trying to shoulder your own cares and fears? • Is it because events in your life are outside of your control? • Is it because of events that were in someone else’s control but they handled it poorly? • Is it because you have failed? Acts 13:13

  9. IT ONLY GETS WORSE Acts 15:36-39 Pray! Psalm 51:10; Romans 8:28 • Accept the things that you cannot change. • View it as a learning opportunity, a chance to improve. • Feelings of inadequacy and discouragement creep into the lives of all of us from time to time. • Events that are outside of your control… • Events that were under your control and you blew it … • Step back and look at your life and reassess some goals you have or some behaviors that might be self-defeating.

  10. AN ACTION PLAN • Be realistic. • Give your discouragement over to God. Consider the words of Matthew 8:17. • Pray & ask God for fresh direction. • Quit beating yourself up over “What might have been…” • Don’t focus on your feelings. • Be ready for God to act in your life.

  11. MARK IS RENEWED BY PAUL Colossians 4:10 (about 15 years after Acts 15) 2 Timothy 4:11 & Philemon 24 Psalm 37:23-24. “The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.”
