  1. April 20, 1889 Adolf Hitler is born in Austria.

  2. 1914-1919 • Adolf Hitler serves in the German Army during WWI from 1914-1920 as a corporal. • Nov. 11, 1918-The Armistice (a temporary truce) which ends WWI is signed. • June 23, 1918-Germany accepts the Versailles Treaty which required that Germany: 1)Accept responsibility for causing the war 2)Disarm 3)Make payments to enemies • Sept. 12, 1919-Hitler joins the National Socialist German Workers’ party (Nazi party)

  3. 1932-1935 • July 31, 1932-The Nazis are asked to form a coalition government. • Jan. 30, 1933-Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany. • Feb. 1933-Sept. 1935 Nazis suspend freedom of speech and assembly, boycott Jewish businesses and remove Jews from government, burn books by Jews. The Nuremburg laws are passed, defining Jews as non-citizens.

  4. 1939 • Sept.- Hitler implements the T-4 program, authorizing killing of the institutionalized, the physically disabled, and mentally handicapped. • Sept. 1- Hitler invades Poland and starts WWII.

  5. 1940-1943 • April, May 1940-Germany invades several countries, including Denmark, Norway, and the Netherlands. • Dec. 1,1941-Germany declares war on the US • Jan. 20,1942-Nazis support a ‘Final Solution’ to the Jewish question (execution/genocide) • Feb.-April 1942-Opening of death camps • Feb. 2, 1943-War begins to turn badly for Germany when they surrender to Soviet forces.

  6. 1944-1945 • June 6, 1944-The Allies (the British Empire, USSR, and the US) invade Western Europe. **The Axis Powers were Germany, Italy, and Japan.** • Nov. 26, 1944-Nazis demolish evidence of war crimes at Auschwitz (concentration camp). • April 30, 1945-Adolf Hitler commits suicide. • May 7, 1945-Germany surrenders, and the war ends in Europe.
