This is a three-year full-time bachelor’s degree program developed by IPHI in consultation with experts from the healthcare technology leaders. The course is designed in accordance with the guidance of the Medical Council of India. It covers the broad spectrum of healthcare topics from a module on human anatomy to clinical biochemistry, medical classifications in pathology, clinical hematology, immunology, microbiology, and diagnostic cytology lab. In the final semester, there is provision of internship wherein the students are supposed to do the field study, conduct practical functions in the hospital and share their project. The basic structure of the course is to acquaint the students with clinical terminologies and existing and emerging practices. The students get an understanding of human anatomy and various facets of health including microbiology, biochemistry, pathology, etc. Besides teaching the participants about the roles and responsibilities of a medical lab technologist, it also makes them ready to deal with emergencies, maintain and operate the technical devices, and prevent possible hazards in biochemical lab. The aspirants get insight into setting up the standard and compliance of protocols in using a technical machine. The BSc MLT enthusiast also has to ensure the implementation of preventive care, maintenance protocol for the cleaning and other departments to ensure that the appliances can operate optimally. 1/2

2. The medical lab technician program makes you eligible to work in any lab after completion of the program. In this integrated health profession,you learn to diagnose, suggest preventive steps, offer curative treatment against infectious diseases, and conduct domain related research through clinical laboratory tests. After completion of this course, the participants can work as the full-time medical lab technician with any of the private or government hospitals, besides opening one’ lab. You are required to conduct the medical test collecting the body fluid, cells, part of the chemical composition, anything that has to do with diagnosis. Also, you are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of medical instruments used in diagnosing a patient. Under this course, the students can select from two streams of medical lab professionals of Technicians and Technologists. The technician is the profile that focuses on merely operating the machine while the technologist may require a more comprehensive application, operation, and maintenance. The technologist may also be involved in setting the SOP for the machine. He/she may support the other team in administrative tasks related to the machine. The career prospect The advantage at IPHI is the integrated training and focus on qualification, enabling the MLT professionals to begin working as technicians, the lab in charge, assistant lab manager, etc. With focused training and specialization one may find the job of a technologist at a medical laboratory. With perseverance and dedication one may move up the hierarchy and secure the appointment of a laboratory manager in a year or two.
