What it means to be a Hazara • Hazara people are from Mongolian dissent. • They make up just about 20% of the Afghanistan population. • They religion is Muslim • They are poop people • They live in the mountains
The history of The Hazara • The origin of the Hazara people are unknown • Many believe that their origin is the Turko Mongol ancestary • The other theory is that they were Buddhists that lived in Hazarajat from the time of the Kushan Dynasty that arrived to Islam
The role in The Kite Runner • The Hazara people are poor people • They usually serve as servants which is Ali’s role in the novel • They also kite fight
Location • Most of the Hazara people live in the mountain regions of Afghanistan • The area of they homeland is called Hazarajat • There is also Hazara people in Baluchistan, Pakistan • The population range is 1.5 to 4.3 million people
Language • Most of the Hazara people speak Dari(a type of Persian language) • Some Hazara people speak Pashtu, Baluchi, and Turkic. • The language of the Hazaras is "Hazaragi"
Religion and Belief • They are Muslim(mostly Imami Shi'ite) • They belong to Shia, Sunni, and Ismaili sects of Islam.
Living Conditions • They are poor people • They have few economic opportunities • The conditions are more harsh in cold climate • Travel is difficult • Agriculture is also poor • They need basic care and clean water
Kite Fighting • A recreation to the Hazara people • The point in playing the game is to move the kite to serve the opposite’s line • Even thought the altered lines are sharp and dangerous the contest results can result in injuries or even death
The Employment • The men mainly work in fields growing crops • Most Hazara women are stay at home wivestaking care of the house and their children • In Kabul,Afganistan they usually have low paying jobs
Clothing • Common clothes of the Hazaras is perahan-u-tunban • Their clothes are made of cotton or wool • Perahan-u-tunban is a type of clothing that resembles pajamas • The men wear vests, overcoats, sweaters over the perahan-u-tunban, and turbans • Women wear colored clothes and is lighter do to them staying indoors • They do not own that much clothes
