Initiatives for Success DSAC partnership Math Focus Academy Data analyses at all levels and content areas Professional Development in ELA, Math, and Writing Curriculum mapping and alignment with the Common Core Walkthroughs with feedback and instructional coaching No tuition Full-Day Kindergarten for all

  3. Strategic Deployment of Personnel A new Curriculum Director was hired Sixth Grade Math teacher looped to Seventh Grade Reading Coordinator/Instructional Specialist hired to work with all teachers district-wide to enhance teaching and learning Title I certified reading teachers instead of unlicensed tutors Content area teams collaborated to align curriculum with Common Core Content area teams planned essential topics for MCAS testing Teachers prepared students for the PARCC trial

  4. A Very Successful Year – 2013-2014!!! Level 2!!! South School is Level 1 JFK is Level 2 JSHS is Level 2 After being Level 3 for as long as State Levels have been in place, Holbrook is Level 2! Onward and upward to Level 1!!!

  5. Principals Screening teams narrowed the field of applicants JFK Principal was chosen and subsequently resigned One candidate was recommended for the South School Principal but he did not accept the position Michele Callinan accepted the position of Interim Principal of the JFK Mallory Stevens served as Assistant Principal of the South School and accepted the position of Principal Robert O’Brien accepted the position of JSHS Principal

This Year’s Plans Curriculum Coordinators are serving all teachers and students Pre-K to Grade 12 The Reading Coordinator/Instructional Specialist position has been enhanced and has become the Humanities Coordinator The STEAM Coordinator serves the remaining content areas Curriculum Coordinators are leading curriculum writing and alignment throughout the district SEI teacher training continues as the program is expanded and enhanced

This Year’s Plans - continued Art has been instituted at the JFK and the Art teacher from the South School will be shared The Music teacher from the South School will be shared with the JFK A full-time School Psychologist will be shared between the JFK and the South School Common planning time for teachers has been continued at both the JFK and the South Model curriculum unit writing will continue along with related subject area curriculum writing Bulldog academy will again provide additional support/enrichment for JSHS students

This Year’s Plans - continued The enVisionMATH program is being piloted The Naviance program is assisting counselors and students in the college search and application process A new library has been established at the JFK DDM refinement and implementation to gauge student mastery of content and related skills begins this year A Financial Literacy course, including software sponsored by Holbrook Cooperative Bank, has been introduced at the JSHS The Mathematics Olympiad program is slated to be enhanced pending the passage of Warrant Article funding

This Year’s Plans - continued An additional elementary program – Science Olympiad – is planned pending the passage of Warrant Article funding An elementary foreign language after-school program will be investigated pending the passage of Warrant Article funding An expansion of technology in the form of laptop carts will be pursued through a warrant article The Strategic Plan will be revised using the school community input gathered from the entry plan surveys NEASC self-study preparation has begun Grants are being actively pursued to provide additional services and resources

This Year’s Plans - continued Continuous collaboration and planning for the Pre-K to Grade 12 building project The approval of the building project by MSBA The education of Holbrook voters in terms of the benefits of the new building The promotion of a positive vote for the building funds at Town Meeting on October 22 The promotion of the vote on November 4 for the new building

Curriculum Coordinators PreK-12 Create continuity and consistency throughout district Prevent redundancy in curricula Ensure interdisciplinary instruction Conduct walkthroughs/observations with feedback Evaluate faculty at all three schools Coordinate curriculum work Divide appropriate data responsibilities from eliminated data position Fill-in for absent Principals at JFK and South Fill-in for absent Assistant Principal at JSHS if necessary

Curriculum Coordinators PreK-12 (continued) Work year-round Model effective instructional practices Facilitate monthly division meetings Lead professional development sessions Assist in NEASC self-study Ensure implementation of DDMs on school level Create alignment of initiatives more easily between two district leaders Devote entire day to district and school initiatives, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and supervision Facilitate data team work

Curriculum Coordinators PreK-12 (continued) Assist in selection of personnel Facilitate testing implementation – MCAS, PARCC, STAR Centralize and allocate materials in schools Disseminate information and common practices throughout district Assist in data presentations to School Committee, faculty, and parents Train faculty on district initiatives and state- mandated programs Oversee and implement Title I & ESL Programs – Humanities Explore and promote digital learning possibilities – STEAM

  14. Communication with Parents & Community Quarterly chats at Central Office – first meeting to be held on October 16th from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Proposed Holbrook Parent Groups combined meeting in January Website updates
