  3. Mission Provide all students of all abilities with numerous opportunities to improve their personal fitness, movement skill, and interpersonal relationships in a safe, supportive, and positive environment.

  4. 6th Grade Curriculum • Promote individual growth and assist in transition • Activities: • Health • Physical Fitness • Movement Skills/ Spatial Awareness • Tumbling • Line Dance and Rythmic Activities • Fitness Testing

  5. 7th Grade Curriculum • Promote individual growth and risk taking • Activities: • Health • Physical Fitness • Badminton • Bowling/ Bocce/ Horseshoes • Golf • Track & Field

  6. 8th Grade Curriculum • Promote team concepts and cooperation • Activities: • Health • Physical Fitness - Softball - Soccer - Volleyball - Basketball

  7. Grading • Daily Participation (Effort/ Behavior/ Dress) = 1 point each day (45%) • Skills Test = 7 Points (7% of grade) • Written Tests = 15 points (15% of grade) • Health (Tests/ Notebook/ Projects) = 33 points (33% of grade)

  8. Conduct Grade • “Outstanding” • “Satisfactory” • “Needs Improvement” • “Unsatisfactory” • Any three of the same offense (tardiness, non-dress, non-participation, or disruptive behavior) or a combination of five offenses within a term will result in an “Unsatisfactory” conduct grade.

  9. Discipline Plan • 1st Step – Warning • 2nd Step – Lunch Detention or Writing Assignment • 3rd Step – After-school Detention (ASD)(30 min) and a phone call home. • 4th Step – Two days ASD (30 min each) • 5th Step – Office Referral Non-compliance w/ any step will result in automatic advance to next step

  10. Uniforms • All students will be required to dress in PE clothes (that meet the school dress code) daily. • PE clothes consist of: • T-shirt (no tank-tops, spaghetti-straps, and bare mid-riffs) • Shorts (appropriate length and no cut-offs) • Athletic Socks and Shoes (w/ arch support) • Sweatshirt/ pants (optional)

Uniforms (cont.) • Shoes with heels, open toes or heels, or metal hooks for ties to include “street hikers” are not acceptable. • Wearing of jewelry is discouraged (safety). • Students’ “school clothes” may not be used as a PE uniform. • Take PE clothes home each Friday to wash. • HMS PE uniform = $20.00.

  12. Lockers/ Locks • Lock is $2.00 • Lost or damaged lock is $7.00 • HMS PE locks are the only locks to be used on PE lockers • Sharing of lockers is not allowed

  13. Locker room Procedures • No food or drinks are allowed in the locker rooms • Use restrooms during dressing time • No roughhouse or horseplay • Students are responsible for their own personal items • Check lost and found • Do not go into the team locker rooms • Students have six minutes both before and after class to dress

  14. Medical Excuses/ Notes • Medical excuses are notes from a doctor - excused for dates stated • Notes from parents/ guardians (telephone numbers) - up to two days. No more than two parent notes are accepted for semester. • Students are still required to dress-out and remain with the class. • Sickness at school - see instructor before class

  15. Make-up Work • Assignments are available to students who are absent from class • Student’s responsibility • Extra credit assignments are available up to 5 points total for each nine weeks • Daily participation points and assignments need to be made up whether the absence is excused or unexcused (this includes doctor’s appointments, band/ chorus rehearsals, athletic contests, field trips, etc.)

  16. Health Requirements • Six week blocks of health • Spiral-bound notebook • Pencil • Take care of the class rooms
