  2. Service Learning Project It all started with a Discussion… Deciding what type of project to get involved with? The students decided and agreed on a Food Drive and to include the entire school.

  3. Which Organization do we partner with? Guest Speaker- June Yost from North Ridgeville Community Care

  4. Community Care History • North Ridgeville’s Community Care is a 100% community based organization. All services are provided through community donations, community support and volunteers. • They receive NO money from the state or federal government.

  5. Community Cares’ Beginnings Community Care began right here in our Middle School!

  7. Horizon Students run it ALL! • The students design collection boxes for each class team. • The students write and perform the morning announcements to promote the food drive • The students design and distribute flyers and posters to promote the food drive. • Each day the horizon students use carts and collect the food from each classroom. • Each day the horizon students count, sort, and graph the collected food. • Each day the horizon students box, bag and load the food into the vehicles for delivery.

  8. The Horizon Students collect nearly 2000 Items for Community Care’s Holiday Food Pantry!!!!!

  9. Recognition • Local Newspaper features an article on the project. • June Yost mentions the afterschool program in a separate article about Community Care.

  10. The impact our project had on the community was huge. It brought the students, staff, and community closer together.
