Objectives :* To examine the reasons that Medieval people thought caused the Black Death.* To understand how they tried to cure the disease.* To examine the short & long term effects of the Black Death in England.
What caused the plague ? • People in medieval times had very little scientific understanding, and did not know the true cause of the disease. • They came up with a range of ‘reasons’ why this pestilence had come amongst them….many of these ideas will appear silly to us in the 21st century.
What caused the plague ? Task : Produce a spider diagram to explain the various reasons for the Black Death that people in the Middle Ages believed. Write a sentence or two to explain each reason.
How did they treat the Black Death ? • Without any of our modern medical knowledge, it was difficult to provide effective care for victims of the disease. Task : Use the information provided to list the different methods used, writing a sentence or two for each one. You could include a sketch too !
