Observations • HUGE waiting list at the beginning of the year (gadget factor) • By March, no waiting list • More student-owned devices are coming to school • “Gadget” factor • Lit circles are SOO much easier!
Pros of Dedicated Ereaders (Nooks/Kindles) • Control over affordable content • Students try-before-you-buy • Can offer more popular books • Can offer higher reading levels on a limited basis • Can offer newer titles for lit circles based on student choice/interest
Cons of Dedicated Ereaders (Nooks/Kindles) • Set up time! • Management! • 4 e-mails, 4 accounts, 4 tracking sheets • BN.com offers other solutions • Nook gift cards as ebook funding • More tracking (online or paper)
Cons of Dedicated Ereaders (Nooks/Kindles) • Accessories expenses
Next Year: Android Tablets!! • Quick access for any web-based tool (what isn’t these days?) • Can load more diverse content • Not locked into one market • More devices on single account?

What we chose…Your mileage may vary • Capstone Interactive Ebooks • Some Follett shelf public domain • World Book Online databases • More later?
First Steps… • Stay informed on ereader/ebook news & blogs • Talk to teachers about their ereader use • Ask students what they are comfortable using • Invite mobile devices in the library
