Protocol to Access WS database (PAWS) Authors: Gabor Bajko, Nokia
Proposal to work on a WS database access protocol in IETF • A new BOF (pre-WG effort) will take place at the IETF meeting in Prague, March 28-31 • Date: Monday, March 28th, 15:10 CET • https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/80/agenda.html • Intention is to form a WG to develop a query protocol for WS database access (PAWS) • Why IETF? • History of upper layer protocol development • PHY/MAC agnostic • An IETF standard for the DB access would be applicable to global variants of TVWS technology Gabor Bajko, Nokia
Initial description of PAWS BOF:https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/paws • A mailing list has been created, subscription details at the above link • Currently +150 members • Most discussions and decisions take place on the mailing list • Jabber room (http://www.ietf.org/jabber/index.html) available at F2F meetings for remote participants PAWS BOF description and mailing list Gabor Bajko, Nokia
Problem statement: http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-patil-paws-problem-stmt-01.txt Use case scenarios: http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-probasco-paws-overview-usecases-00.txt Further input welcomed! PAWS BOF reading material Gabor Bajko, Nokia
Database discovery based on WSD current location • Client provisioning • Location Delivery • Required security • Access protocol itself • Data to be requested and provided • The protocol • Would not be country specific • Would be PHY/MAC independent The protocol would potentially support Gabor Bajko, Nokia
Getting requirements from the IEEE TGs would be of great help • Establish an official liason relationship • Consider allowing access of PAWS members to the relevant IEEE draft documents (it has been done in the past, eg 802.11u) • An approved (75% passed) draft spec to be attached to a liason letter Co-operation with IEEE Gabor Bajko, Nokia
If you support this effort, then indicate so in the PAWS BOF F2F or jabber room!! Support Gabor Bajko, Nokia
