  1. CPSC 203Introduction to Computers Tutorials 03 & 29 by Jie (Jeff) Gao

  2. Project – Computer System Purchase Recommendation • Apply the comprehensive knowledge of this course to an everyday scenario • Recommend a computer system for a particular user/group of users • Software, hardware and possibly peripherals should be discussed CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  3. Project – Groups • The research of the project is to be done in groups • A group contains 2 – 4 students • Students can form groups freely but all group members should be in the same lecture section • It is recommended that all group members are in the same TA’s tutorials CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  4. Project – Scenario • A scenario with assumptions should be decided first: • What is the targeted user(s) • What tasks will the user(s) be doing with computers • User skill level • Budget • … CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  5. Project – Scenario • Develop the scenario and assumptions well. This helps your project a lot • You CANNOT pick a “university student” scenario • You’d better select the scenario that you are familiar with, interested in, or having someone to talk about. CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  6. Project – Report • Should contain • Scenario description • Software • Hardware • Peripherals (if necessary) • Detailed discussion of SW/HW/Peripherals • Conclusion/Summary • Bibliography (Reference) CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  7. Project – Report • The scenario should be stated clearly • Analyze the software needed for the user’s tasks first, then decide what hardware is needed for running the software. Add peripherals only when they are really needed. CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  8. Project – Report • Detailed discussion (important!) • For SW/HW, find candidates that might meet your needs • Compare the candidates, give your detailed analysis and decide which one to choose • Only “what” is not enough. You need to say “why”. • It is NOT merely a clip of articles/ads. You also need your OWN opinions CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  9. Project – Report • Conclusion • Summarize everything in your report, from scenario to HW/SW selections (and budgets as well). • Bibliography • Opinions and quotations from other articles/websites should be cited CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao

  10. Project – Hand in and Marking • Reports should be printed out and handed in to ASSIGNMENT BOXES in Math Sciences building • Only one copy needed. Students in a group get the same mark • Reports will be marked on Content, Organization and Presentation. All possible letter grades will be used (A, A-, B+, …, F) CPSC 203 Tutorials by Jie Gao
