  1. My Professional Goals for the Week of July 14-18th, 2008 Melissa Doherty

  2. Goal One • I want to design a new website for my classroom using the Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 program. I have never used this program before, so this is a good fit for me. I have used FrontPage before, so I am hoping some of the skills involved will be transferrable. Staying true to my mantra over the past two years, I want to step out of my comfort zone and try something new that will “raise the bar” for me. If I experience glitches along the way, we’ll call it action research.

  3. Old Website vs. New Website • I am hoping that my new website will be much more professional-looking with useful links, many of the resources that I have acquired in the past two years, and ready to go for my students to use in September.

  4. Goal Two • I would like to learn about GPS units and the process of geo-caching. I have a GPS unit at home (a father’s day gift from the kids), but I have no idea how to use it. • Participating in the workshops this week should enable me to create a series of activities that I can offer the students in my Global Geography 12 classes. • I will set a goal of locating three (3) good resources and linking them to my GGS 12 page within my site.

  5. Goal Three • My third goal will be to attend the mini-session regarding photo manipulation. I need to learn how to resize, crop, and edit photos. I have the Irfanview program on my laptop but have never used it before, so this will be beneficial for me, both professionally as well as personally. • I will set a goal of manipulating a minimum of ten (10) photos, importing them & distributing them throughout my new site.
