VOLUME-1 ‘FALLING BRIDGE BETWEEN JOURNALISM & MARKETING’ Mass Communication Seminar Special ISSUE-4 In today‟s world journalism has changed its meaning. Now money plays the role of reporter and gets news published or broadcasted based on the business its bringing into the organisation. No more it remain the once known medium of bringing social change in the society. Media persons are now playing a very important and crucial new role in this changed scenario. The once crusader has now been reduced to a door to door sales man who is selling the space or spot of its organisation by using various marketing skills forgetting its innate nature of reporting. Once being known as the watch dog of the nation has now become the pet dog of those who have money in their pockets and power in their hands. On this very issue NBA group of institute has organised a one day seminar on the topic of „Falling Bridge between Journalism and Marketing‟. This one day seminar saw many eminent speakers discussing the issues like paid news, ethical responsibility and corporate run media busi-ness. The guest speakers for the seminar were Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, Dr. Navneet Anand, Mr. Manikant Thakur & Ms. Alokananda Sen Awasthi who shared their views and thoughts on this issue. Many students ask their questions to understand this new scenario. One of the Speaker Mr. Paranjoy Guha Thakurta shared his views on paid news with the budding journalists of to-morrow saying that “Today Journalists are selling their souls for less than a bottle of whisky.” He explained that it is the duty of a journalist to report ethically not to be sold for money.

In 2010, he founded Pub-lic Affairs & Mr. Paranjoy Guha Thak- urta is an independent journalist and an educator. His work experience, spanning over 36 years, cuts across different media: print, radio, tele- vision and documentary cinema. He is a writer, speaker, anchor, interviewer, teacher and commentator in three lan-guages. As a member of a sub-committee of the Council, he co-authored a report entitled “Paid News: How corrup-tion in the Indian media undermines democracy”. Being a sports passionate, she has worked as a sports journalist with various media organisations and News With over three decades of journalism in print, Television and Radio, Mr. anikant Thakur has become a house- hold name in radio broadcast- ing. The prestigious Asia- Pacific Broadcasting Union which has a membership of 150 countries including India honored him for his 20 episode Radio Documentary series 'Asian Aspirations' in 2002. He is also the recipient of most coveted award of 'Best Correspondent' by the Minis-try of Information & Broadcasting for outstanding Radio journalism. chan -nels.
