  1. CERN 12 de Feb 2.004 CSSM Working Group Jose María Fontanillo Muñiz mailto: Jmaria.fontanillo@rediris.es Jabber-id: fonta@im.rediris.es GDS: 0034 1000 001 http://www.rediris.es/mmedia RedIRIS

  2. GDS • Global Dialling Scheme • Numbering plan • H.323 gatekeeper: • Optional element in H.323. • Mandatory functions: address translation, admision control, bandwith control and zone management • Optional functions: call authoritation, call management, bandwith management and call control signalling.

  3. H.323 Application RTP / RTCP RAS H.245 H.225.0 TCP-UDP/IP GDS • An H.323 Gatekeeper can work in several ways: • Only Location (LRQ, LCF and LRJ) without endpoints registered<- directory • With endpoints registered and direct signalling between endpoints • Routing H.225/H.245 signalling • Proxy

  6. GDS • Defines 00 as the international prefix. • It uses well known ITU international telephone prefixes: http://www.itu.int/itudoc/itu-t/ob-lists/icc/e164_717.pdf • The GDS also defines an alphanumeric dialplan :< station ID>@<fully qualified domain name of the institution> • Spanish national plan: <number> = [<escape prefix>] <international part> <national part> <international part>=0034 <national part> = <institution prefix><endpoint number>[<sufix>] <endpoint number> = nnnn

  7. GDS-Prefixes

  8. GDS-Our Implementation • Cisco 2600 router with the MCM extension of IOS as national gatekeeper • Gnugk (www.gnugk.org) as gatekeeper for our endpoints

  9. GDS-Applications • ¿why? • Makes independence the id of terminal IP • More easy multiconference using an MCU, you only need to dial a number • It can be used to videoconference and VoIP • Is the facto standard numering plan in research and academic world Example you can have your GDS number that can follow you , when you are in your office and you have bandwidth you can use your videoconference system, sometimes with a gateway you can redirect the call to a cellular telephone, sometimes to a IP phone in your house, etc
