Where are we going? • What is discipleship? • What does it look in practice?
A Christian disciple is increasingly delighting in and worshipping God the Father, being changed by His Spirit and obeying Jesus His Son in all of life, as part of the church family, and is helping others to do the same.
Go and Make disciples Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28: 19-20 (NIV)
None of us have attained perfection. We can all grow in maturity. Therefore, discipleship is for everyone.

Sharing lives / meeting together = Overlap --------------- Spurring + Urging = Spurging
Sharing lives Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well. 1 Thessalonians 2:8, 11-12 (NIV)
Urging on For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. 1 Thessalonians 2:8, 11-12 (NIV)
Spurring on… And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds… Hebrews 10: 24-25 (NIV)
… and Meeting together not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10: 24-25 (NIV)
Discipleship ≠ more events It’s easier to share your life than add to it.
The sharing of our lives leads to deeper relationships.
The sharing of our lives leads to deeper relationships. And it is in this context that we can most effectively ‘spurge’ one another.
High Spurging God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love— likeChrist in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love. Ephesians 4:15,16 (The Message)
Discipleship is not always formal, or a Bible study, or one-to-one, or from older to younger. But it is always Jesus-centred.
