Styles • Where you modify the design characteristics of a paragraph • Define the type of paragraph, all types have the same design • Headers • Footers • Headings • Heading 1 • Heading 2 • Heading 3 • … up to Heading 9 • Text • Paragraphs, text, bullets, etc. • Bullets, Numbers • Table titles, Figure titles • Whatever you want to call it… • Styles based on inheritance of “normal”, but can be adjusted on new styles you define

  3. Proximity • Accomplished using white space between paragraphs • Computed by ADDING above and below spacing • See Paragraph… dialog box • Adjust Above & below spacing

  4. Alignment • Accomplished using varied vertical alignments • See Paragraph… dialog box • Indentation • Special (First Line, Hanging) • Tabs • Bullets, Numbering

  5. Repetition • Accomplished by repeating fonts, colors, headers, footers, bullets, graphics, lines, etc. • For Fonts & Colors • See Font… dialog box • Font • Style • Size • Effect • Color

Repetition • For Headers • See Top “Insert” tab, click “Header”, then pick style desired • Adjust “Different First Page” “Different Odd & Even Pages” • Click “Close Header/Footer” box • For Footers • See Top “Insert” tab, click “Footer”, then pick style desired • Click “Close Header/Footer” box

  7. Repetition • For Bullets or numbering style • See Paragraph… dialog box • Tabs dialog box • Bullets, Numbering • For Lines • See Border…, Click Custom, select line style, click in picture as desired

  8. Contrast • For Bolding & Color • See Font… dialog box • Style • Color • For Reverse highlighting • See Border…, Select Shading tab, select color to black (or color desired), and style to color desired

  9. Creating a Table of Contents • Set heading1, heading2, heading3 for all headings throughout document • Put cursor where you want the TOC • Click “References” tab • Click Table of Contents, select style desired • Remember to “Update Table” when change headings content, order, page numbers
