  2. Appositive Phrase • Noun phrases that identify or explain adjacent nouns or pronouns. • Hint: they often begin with “a,” “an,” or “the.” • They can occur as sentence openers, subject-verb splits, or sentence closers.

  3. Here are 2 sentences written by professional writers, but with some parts deleted: • However, I looked with a mixture of admiration and awe at Peter. • That night in the south upstairs chamber Emmett lay in a kind of trance.

  4.   8. Your task: • Each scrambled sentence has one or more appositive phrases. • Unscramble the sentence parts and write out the sentence on your white board, punctuating it correctly. • Underline the appositive phrase(s). • When your group is done, raise your hands quietly.
