1. Miss Celli’s Classroom Policies 2013- 2014 “We Will Go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty to Ensure That Every Student is Successful Everyday”

2. Morning Routine Upon entering the classroom in the morning students will go put their jacket and put book bag in their cubby. Students will get their agenda books and homework folder and take to their desk. Those that do get breakfast, they are to come in, put their food down and put book bag and jacket in cubby. Take out journal and folder and go back to desk and eat. When students are done eating, they are to complete agenda and morning work. Once students put their belongings in their cubbies, they may not return without permission. Students will write in agenda book the homework for the night and complete morning work. Select an AR (accelerated reader) or classroom library book to read after you have completed the morning assignment. Be sure to sharpen 2 pencils during morning work. You may not sharpen pencils at any other time during the day. You may trade one in or buy one of mine for a Spartan shield. Behavior Management There is a behavior chart hanging in the front of the classroom. Every student begins the day on “ready to learn.” Students have three chances to move up during the day by good behavior and staying on task. Students will fill in their behavior log at the end of each day and parents must initial it. Students have 3 warnings for bad behavior or not staying on task. The first warning will land them on “Make better choices.” This warrants 5 minutes of recess owed to me. The second warning lands them on “Teachers Choice,” which will warrant 10 minutes of recess. The last warning is “Parent Contact” and that will warrant some communication with a parent either by behavior log or a call home.

3. Assignments • Any papers that are to be turned in should have the following on it: • First & Last Name • Date & Number • Assignments are to be completed neatly. • Erasers should be used to correct mistakes. • I will contact parents/guardians if there is a consistent problem with late or no homework. Agenda Book 1. Each student is given an agenda book. Each morning the students are responsible for writing down their homework in their agenda book. Parents are asked to sign the agenda book each night to acknowledge the homework. Behavior Bingo Each student is given a number in the beginning of the year. When students “are caught” being good, doing something positive or staying on track, they will be given the opportunity to put their number on the bingo chart. On fridays, I will call 3 bingo numbers and the student whose number is on those 3 spots will be rewarded with a coupon.

4. Reading Log Students are required to read for 15 minutes each night. They are given a reading log to record the books that they read. The record is given each Monday and asked to be returned on Monday’s. Parents are asked to sign each entry. When the class reaches 100 books read, there will be a pizza party. Bathroom Procedures One student uses the bathroom at a time. Hand signals are to be used when the bathroom is needed, but not during instruction time. During instruction time, bathroom is not to be used unless it is an emergency. Remember to use the bathroom appropriately or there will be consequences. Recess & Lunch Make sure that you listen to any and all teachers in charge of the cafeteria and playground. Do not leave the cafeteria or playground unless given permission by a teacher. You are sharing both the cafeteria and playground with other students, so be respectful of others and their belongings. Absent Work If you are absent, all paper work will be sitting on your desk. Please put in homework folder and complete at home. Please return work the following school day for full grading points.

5. Fire Drill Procedures When the fire bell rings, students are to immediately line up at the door, quickly and quietly. The last person in line should turn off the lights and close the door. Students are to head out of the door and go right towards the back door. Spartan Shields Positive behaviors comes throughout the day in many different ways; being respectful to others, staying on task, working hard on projects or following community rules. Students can earn spartan shields throughout the week. Every Friday we will have a trade in for rewards, lunch with the teacher or helping another teacher. Homework Homework is given Monday through Thursday each week. No homework is ever given on Friday. There will be Reading & Math homework each night, along with reading for 15 minutes. Students are responsible for bringing both homework assignments home and completing them. Parents are asked to sign agenda books acknowledging the homework each night. If homework is not completed at home, students are required to complete during recess (unless a valid excuse).

6. Curriculum Teachers at New Castle Elementary instruct students according to the Common Core Standards. In addition, instructional experiences for our students are based on the Colonial School District Board Adopted Curriculum. Language Arts A variety of resources are utilized depending on the needs of the students. The Harcourt StoryTown Language Arts series will serve as the foundation for the exploration of all types of children’s literature. Literature is used across all subject areas to help students connect information through the use of reading and writing skills. Language Arts is a tool used for learning and integrating all subject areas. Mathematics Scott Foresman Investigating Investigations curriculum is utilized as the core of our mathematics instruction. Students participate in activities that promote Numeric Reasoning, Algebraic Reasoning, Geometric Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. Some areas of focus are probability, patterns, number relationships, measurement, computation, geometry, and algebra. Science FOSS science kits provide students with a hands-on approach to learning different scientific concepts. Some units at various grade levels include: Soil, Organisms, Balance and Motion, Time and Space, Human Body, Chemical Tests, and Ecosystems. Social Studies Through the use of the Harcourt Brace Social Studies series, students develop skills and knowledge in the area of history, geography, civics, and economics.

7. Classroom Supplies Supplies are provided by the school and/or teacher throughout the school year. Donations are gladly accepted at any time and will always be appreciated. If you are looking for things that could be donated, below is a list of items that fly off our shelves.  Pencils! Glue sticks Eraser caps Scissors Highliters Dry erase markers Post it notes Tissues Hand sanitizer Disinfectant wipes Books for our classroom library Scholastics Miss Celli’s classroom participates in Scholastics. Each month the scholastic book newsletter will get sent home. You can either purchase the books online through this link, or send a check in with your child in an envelope and the newsletter with the books documented that you and your child would like. The due date is always the last Friday of each month. It generally takes two weeks for the books to arrive, in which they will be sent home with your child. The more books that you and your child purchase, the more points the classroom will receive to earn books for our classroom. 8. End of Day • Students begin packing up at 3:10. • Students are responsible for getting homework papers into their homework folder to take home. • Walkers, car riders and after care students are to line up first. They will be dismissed at 3:15. • When bus riders are packed up and quiet, they are to put chairs on top of desks and line up according to bus number. They will be dismissed at 3:20.
