Childhood Overweight & Obesity • America is losing the fight against childhood inactivity and obesity. • The childhood obesity rate has nearly tripled over the past 3 decades. • Quality health and physical education can reverse this trend.
Reasons • The increase of technology • Children are raised in a fast food culture • Children do not have confidence in physical skills
Schools Need Physical Education • Educates the WHOLE CHILD • Physical education provides structure and discipline • Develop and enhance both physical and academic skills
Schools Need Physical Education • Elementary School: physical activity enhances physical skills and cognitive development • Middle School: physical activity builds self-esteem, which leads to more confidence in intellectual and physical ability • High School: enhances social, cooperative, and cognitive skills
