Marketing CTE Calvert County Public School CTE Counselors’ Conference November 1, 2012
Library Project • We received a grant award for $5000 for the purpose of forging a partnership between the public library and Calvert County Public Schools. • The partnership allowed us to market our CTE programs to students and parents in our community.
Library Project The kickoff event was held in January at our local public library. • Dr. Grasmick attended and spoke. • Dr. Smith, our superintendent, spoke. • Several county commissioners and members of our Board of Education attended. • Several alumni students spoke. • Finally, I spoke (low light of whole event).
Library Project Three evening events at the library: • Construction and Development and Transportation Technology • Arts, Media, and Communication; MET; and IT • Business Management and Finance; Consumer Services, Hospitality, and Tourism; Health and Biosciences; and Human Resource Services
Library Project What we used the money for… • Posters advertising our programs, • Bookmarks serving as “save the dates”, • Stipends for teachers to attend the evening events, • Refreshments for the kickoff event.
Recruiting Tenth Graders • Tenth grade presentations in either English or US History • Slide show and videos • Field Trips to CTA
Recruiting Tenth Graders Field Trip Sign Up
Recruiting Tenth Graders • Each high school comes for ½ day. • Knock the whole thing out in two days. • Sample name tag that the tenth graders wear.
Videos • Contracted with Career Puppy, a local business, to create an overview video for our school. • Have since created a second video which featured three programs – CAD, Oracle, and Cisco. • Will be making a third video this year marketing our PLTW programs.
Counselors • Communicating with high school and middle school counselors about our programs is very important. • Each year, we bring the counselors from our six middle schools and four high schools to the CTA for ½ day tour and conversation.
