  2. You will need • The job description and person spec (JD) used for matching your job • The matched job report (CAJE report) for your job. • Job evaluation handbook • Your Trust’s policy on job evaluation and review including any forms that you need to fill in

  3. Reasons for Incorrect Match • Job has been clustered to the wrong job description • Job description does not reflect the full range of duties of your post • Person spec set at recruitment level - not the level for the developed post • Matching panel have not interpreted the information correctly

  4. First Steps • Is the person specification for your post set at the level required to do the job? • Does the job description reflect the skills and responsibilities for your post? • If the answer to either of these is ‘no’ read on...

  5. Review the Matching Decisions • Using the CAJE report for your job look at the factor levels and descriptions in the job evaluation (JE) handbook (Factor Plan & Guidance Notes chapter 2) • Make sure you read the notes related to each factor level • Do these levels accurately describe your job? • Does your job fit more easily in a higher level for any factor?

  6. Factor 2, Knowledge Training & Experience • Start with factor 2, Knowledge Training & Experience • Use the additional guidance in the JE handbook (Evaluating/Matching under Factor 2, chapter 3) • Additional guidance regarding levels 5,6 & 7 can be found in ‘Guidance on the application of the Agenda for Change Job Evaluation Scheme for posts requiring skilled & experienced Occupational Therapists (COT website)

  7. Check the Matching Decisions • Make a note of what you believe to be the correct level for your job • Look at the Job Evaluation Weighting Scheme - Scoring Chart (Chapter 5 page 50 JE Handbook) • Add up the scores that you think apply to your job

  8. Check the Pay Band • Check the Job Evaluation Band Ranges (chapter 6 page 51 JE Handbook) • Does your revised score take you over the boundary into the next pay band? • If ‘yes’ you should seek a review of your initial job match • If ‘no’ your job may not be correctly matched but it has been correctly banded and a review would make no difference to your band or your pay.

  9. How to Apply for a Review • Check your local JE Review procedure • Put together your evidence for the review • Evidence should be in writing and should explain why you match higher levels for particular factor/s • Submit evidence within 3 months of notification of your initial outcome

  10. Tips • Group reviews where more than one member of staff has the same issue • Separate out tasks undertaken for ‘development purposes’ from those that are necessary to the post • Managerial endorsement of your request will strengthen your position
