  1. Friend or Foe? Student journals will be used daily to interpret what they’ve learned. The journal entries will be used to create wiki entries. The class wikipedia will be used for student writing, revising, and editing. Students will add notations with their name, date, and time of day.

  2. What do we KNOW about animals? * Write or draw pictures that show at least five things that you know about animals.

  3. What do we KNOW about people and animals? * Write or draw pictures that show at least five things that you know about people AND animals.

  4. What stories do we know that have animals and people in them? Write the name and author of any stories or books you can think of that have animals and people in them.

  5. What do we know about how animals and people help each other? Write or draw at least five ways that animals and people help each other.

  6. What do we know about how animals and people hurt each other? Write or draw about at least two ways that animals and people hurt each other.

  7. What do we know about extinct or endangered animals? Write or draw about two extinct or endangered animals.

  8. Word List Generate a list of words about animals, people and animals, endangered animals and extinct animals. Add to the list during the unit.

  9. What do we WANT to know or learn about animals and people? Write five things that you would like to learn about how animals and people relate – • how they hurt each other? • how they help each other?

  10. What do we WANT to learn about endangered or extinct animals? Write 3 things you want to learn about endangered or extinct animals.

  11. How will we find out more? Where should we look? Who should we ask?

  12. What resources will help us?

  13. What characteristics should we focus on? What is included in a story that we can learn from? What does a story tell us that would be helpful?

  14. How will we show what we have learned? How does a person who works show what they have learned? How does a veterinarian show that they have learned something? How does a banker show that they have learned something? What could YOU do to show you have learned something about this topic?
