What do we want to achieve in 2014? • A clear understanding that 'research improves clinical outcomes' and also improves the visibility of research as a core clinical activity. • Increased number of bids and collaborative proposals and grant capture (income!) • Organisational development and an infrastructure to support active research and Academic Directorate Status
How to build research capacity in the NHS? • Working with leaders to operationalise the strategy • Identifying the research active staff • Clarify the research process • Ensure that research active staff can navigate the systems • Build collaborative bidding teams and focus on grant capture • Use experience (AHP PI's) across the region • Ensure organisational rewards and incentives are in place
So..What have we achieved?New Directorate Research Infrastructure to support bidding and grant capture DEVEVELOPMENT OF ACADEMIC BOARD with PPI representation 1st meeting held 22nd April. Senior academic partners as members DEVELOPMENT OF DIRECTORATE PATIENT PANEL Meeting for interested members of the public 30 April – 14 people attended 1st Panel meeting 28 May 2-4pm. New video to promote staff understanding LEARNING EVENTS -24th March RDS led event for research active staff -22nd July Innovation on Research conference with SHU -Directorate research conference in Nov 2014
New Directorate Research Infrastructure to support bidding and grant capture BIDS RDS for PPI in Frail Elderly - successful Research for patient Benefit (RfPB) – success in respiratory physio and 2 others going in from physiotherapy. 2 Clinical Fellowships submitted. NIHR Health Service Research and Delivery (HSR&D) into AHP Role and Contribution into Discharge Management. 2 Commercial studies planned to go ahead (one portfolio) CSP bid for pulmonary hypertension with SHU CAPACITY We have identified 52 staff engaged in specific clinical or health service research (not including audit or service evaluation) funded by external bodies 8 staff identified who wish to go forward with Clinical Fellowships. Dementia research forum bidding to Dunhill Trust in October Neuro-rehabilitation research forum including clinical and academic staff planning 2 bids
Opening - Portfolio Studies: High Quality National Research providing an opportunity to grow patient recruitment CLRN database searched quarterly Search using combination of different criteria 1. Title 2. Specialty 3. Intervention Identifying appropriate studies
