The Costs of Solid Waste • In 2010, New Jersey spent nearly a billion dollars disposing of almost 9 million tons of waste, excluding environmental harm. • Proper recycling could have saved $250 million in disposal costs.

EFFECTS OF OZONE ON LUNG FUNCTION Healthy airway Inflamed airway due to ozone inhalation PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS: Cough, throat irritation, pain, burning, or discomfort in the chest when taking a deep breath, chest tightness, wheezing, or shortness of breath. CAUSE: Injury to airway epithelial cells followed by a cascade of other effects. SOURCE: USEPA (2012)
The lung of a person exposed only to air. The tiny cilia that clear the lungs of mucus appear along the top of the image in a neat and regular row. The lung of a person exposed to 20 ppb of ozone for 4our hours during moderate exercise. Some cilia appear missing and others appear misshapen.
