Programs • Conducted Annual Member Survey in March 2007 with 33% response rate • Tied member responses on areas of interest from Member Survey to 2008 program topics • Have already identified topics and speakers for 10 of 11 meetings in 2008 • Coordinated with speakers throughout the year • Confirmed and rescheduled speakers • Obtained content and bios for posting on the website • Purchased speaker gifts Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

  8. Membership • Grew membership to 301 through 11/07, up nearly 20% from 11/06 • 160 (53%) are renewals from 2006 • 141 (47% ) are new members Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

Membership, continued • Initiated an Ambassador program • Board members are assigned to welcome new members at their first meeting • Continued to track membership statistics • For example, number of members who have attended meetings, years of HR experience, etc. • Conducted 2 new member orientations Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

Treasury • Maintained Chapter financial health at >$44,000, up from $31,000 in funds from same time last year • Have continued to invest in Chapter infrastructure including • Two $1000 scholarship awards • $1,500 donation to SHRM Foundation to be sent later this month • Purchase of a wireless microphone for Chapter meetings Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

Communications • Notified members of monthly meetings and discussion groups (3 mailers per month for each) • Prepared and produced 12 Chapter newsletters • Continued to update and upgrade our website • Posted chapter events, Board meeting minutes, newsletters, advertising, etc. • Added and revised web pages – e.g., FAQ, Board position description, diversity/workforce pages • Continued to add National and State SHRM links – e.g., SHRM Foundation, News Feed, VA State SHRM • Averaged 7 job postings a month and continued to enable members to post resumes • Continued to minimize the cost of webmaster services and decrease turnaround time with use of Dreamweaver Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

  12. Registration • Decreased the registration lines at meetings by placing more emphasis on the use of website and mailer messages to encourage prepayment • Increased the percentage of prepaid meeting attendees who use the credit card payment option • From 55% in 2006 to 79% in 2007 • Added the Dulles SHRM logo to name tags Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

Certification • Registered 12 participants in the 2007 PHR/SPHR Study Group (had to turn away 3 applicants due to space limitations) • Pass rate to be measured in February 2008 after testing window closes and results are posted • 2007 survey to be completed in January 2008 • 10 of 11 Dulles SHRM chapter meeting programs approved by HRCI for credits • Established partnership with NOVA SHRM to participate in the Peering Mentoring program • Served as a program committee member • 3 Dulles SHRM members selected for the class of 2007 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

Diversity/Workforce Education • Connected members with community resources • Engaged 5 community speakers to present information about their services/resources at Chapter meetings • Worked with the Communications Director to increase the Diversity/Workforce information on our website • Created a committee to promote the employment of people with disabilities • Supports SHRM National “Circle of Champions” program • Began involvement this year with the goal of increasing participation in 2008 • Contributed numerous articles on diversity and workforce issues to the Chapter newsletter Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

Student Chapter Liaison and Scholarship • Implemented our student membership policies 01/07 • No dues for students and reduced fee for Chapter meetings • Sponsored GMU’s Student Chapter Merit Award application in March 07 – GMU received a Superior Merit Award • Awarded two chapter scholarships of $1,000 • Contacted student chapters at GMU and GW • Lack of student activity on both campuses in recent months has limited our opportunities to contribute • 2 Board members participated as volunteers in the HR Games, an annual college-level competition sponsored by SHRM • Nidhi Kanungo and Tina Strasheim Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

Legislative Affairs • Organized “Day Inside the Beltway” to lobby on the Hill in May 2007 • “High quality, but not high quantity” with 6 participants • Met with National SHRM’s Governmental Affairs office at Alexandria Headquarters • Met with staff of the local Congressional delegation • Lobbied on proposed legislation including the Immigration Reform Act Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

SHRM Foundation & Embry Rucker • Will support the SHRM Foundation in 2007 with a $1,500 (or more) contribution • $492 collected through monthly 50/50 raffles as of November Chapter meeting • Remainder donated out of general funds • Contributed articles on the work of the SHRM Foundation to the Chapter newsletter • Embry Rucker • Collected $500 (though November) from members to provide support to Embry Rucker, a homeless shelter in Reston Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

  18. And More … • Dulles SHRM Secretary • Prepared Board meetings minutes (posted on our website) • Supported the Virginia State SHRM Conference • Provided seed money in late 2006 • 4 members served on the core Volunteer Committee • Kathleen Ferris, Conference Co-Chair • Nidhi Kanungo, Volunteer Chair • Cornelia Gamlem and Mary Walter Midkiff, Program Chairs • 8 members participated as volunteers • Staffed a Dulles SHRM table to advertise our Chapter • Implemented “member in transition” policy • Provides reduced meeting fees for members who experience a period of unemployment Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice

And Even More … • Co-sponsored the 2nd Annual Greater Washington Employer Benefit and Work/Life Survey • Celebrated our 20th anniversary • Organized by two past presidents, Lynn Lorenz and Don Nagley • Pins, banners, decorations, history of the chapter, and recognition of past presidents Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice
