  2. Thegoal of mediationis to find a resolutionwhichallpartiesbelieveisfair. It´snotunlikediscussing a problema withyourparentsorchildren. Thedifferenceisthatyouhave a trained mediator acting as a neutral party. The mediator doesnot favor eithersidebutacts as thevoice of reasonand assiststheparties in reaching a mutualagreement. However, in orderformediation to be effective, bothpartiesneed to be willing to cooperate.

  3. Ifyoumaintainanall-or-nothingapproach, themediationwillprobablyfail. It´simportant to keep and open mind. Don´tautomaticallydiscount posible solutionsbeforeproceedinghavestarted. Themostimportantelement in a successfilmediationis a good mediator. Itisimportantthat he orshe has somebackgroundknowledge. Butitisalso vital that he orshe can interacteffectivelywithvariouspersonalities.

  4. Theyshould be able to come up withlots of creativeoptions. Theyneed to be clear, organized and keepthemomentumgoing. So hire a mediator who has goodinterpersonal skillsand judgmentyou can trust.
