The History Of Child Labor By: Natali Avila
My five most important aspects to understand about child labor: • Due to the growth of the economy children then were forced to work more • Young children were out working instead of going to school • The dangerous and hard conditions they were exposed to • Change during the twentieth century • Child labor was very popular in companies and businesses
The growth of the economy • Young children were being manipulated to work longer hours after the growth of the economy • Children now had more duties then before • They were up every morning before daylight to get started on their duties • They were working longer and harder hours: many of them worked 12 hours or more a day, six days a week for little to no pay, under unhealthy conditions
Working over education • David Cody in his web article “Child Labor” reported that in 1800’s children were out working long hours in hard conditions instead of going to school • Children were having to work in order to survive because a family wouldn’t be able to support itself if their children weren't working
Conditions They Were Exposed TO • In the 1990’s a lot of violations were being reported and investigated • A lot of companies and businesses were being caught with violations • Children were violating the working hours and conditions
Change during the twentieth century • Although child labor had existed for a long time it finally began to change during this time • Lewis Hine in his web article “Child Labor in the U.S History” informs us that child labor then began to decrease due to laws being invented to protect the safety and right of the children
Businesses and companies Involved with child labor • Child labor was very popular in businesses and companies • They believed that they were more useful due to their small size and small hands • They also preferred having children as workers because they believed they were more useful then adults, easier to control and they would pay them little to no wages
Conclusion • In the end I hope we can all realize how hard and crucial children's life was back then due to: • them having to work longer and harder hours after the growth of the economy • not being able to go to school due to them having to work • Them being more suitable and wanted as employees • all the violations that businesses and companies were making regarding their rights • But finally it all began to change during the twentieth century for their beneficial
