2013 Focus “Representing Christ” • B. PURPOSE OF ATHLETICS Athletics exist at Fort Saskatchewan Christian School to provide students with an opportunity to glorify God. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17) Our athletes will demonstrate and improve their God-given talent, and represent our school in a way pleasing and acceptable to Him through the avenue of sport. What does “Representing Christ” Look Like? • Sportsmanship on court: staying calm and respectful of opponents, equipment, and tournament officials. • Off court behavior: respecting our/other school property and space (eg. Keeping our sitting area during tournament’s perfectly clean)
Team Information • Sr. Tournaments • Sat, Apr 6- Hosted by Fort High at their school and here at Fort Christian • Sat, Apr 27- Hosted by SCA • Practices • Sr. Team only : Tuesdays from 3:30-5 • Jr and Sr. Teams Wednesdays • Jr. Team Only Thursday’s
Jr. Team Tournaments • Sat, April 20that FR Haythorne/Bev Facey • Sat, April 27th at Ft. Christian/Ft. High (hosted by fort high)
Fees and Participation • EIPS Final Tournament (Tuesday, April 30 9:00am-3:00 PM) • Roster’s will be set with the following things under consideration • Representing Christ Well • Practice attendance • Tournament attendance • Attitude and Effort in all badminton events • Singles/Team Record and skill level • Coachability (willingness to learn) • Ability to be versatile (play in different postions and circumstances) • $70.00 fee for the season. • This includes: • Equipment usage (birdies, school racquets, nets, etc) • Tournament entries (1 exhibition tournament guaranteed) • 2 Practice times/week • 2 exhibition matches (vs AND on Apr 25, @ RH on the 23rd)
Practice Plan • 3:33: Changed and begin warming up • 3:35-3:40: Serving practice (open/closed, long/short). Please allow serve to hit floor so server can see their accuracy • 3:40-3:45: Clear shot (high and hard to back of court) practice (set up partner for 5 clears in a row then switch) • 3:45-3:50: Drop shot (address birdie in the same way as clear) • Different from a net shot
Practice Plan Continued • 3:50-3:55: Smash (same address as clear and drop) • 3:55-4:00: Net Shots/net game. Mini game near net with partner • 4:00-4:50: Rally/Games/Skill Challenges (serving into hoops) etc. Please be intentional about this time. Work on skills/areas of your game that need extra time/practice. • 4:50-5:00: Team meeting/Equipment take down and put away.
Transportation • The athlete is responsible to find a ride to and from all practices and tournaments. If you are unable to find a ride please contact coach for assistance. • Pick up from practice must happen quickly after athlete is changed. Student athletes need to be out of the school building by 5:20.
