Research Methodology - SNE4230 Areas of study include: • Theory of science; research problems and strategies in special needs education • Qualitative and quantitative research designs, methods, instruments, data analysis and presentation • Research ethics • Principles and techniques of statistical analysis Steinar Theie - DSNE
Research Methodology - SNE4230 Exam information • Individual written examination in statistical principles and analysis (3 hours) at the end of the second semester. Grades: Pass/Fail • Development of a research proposal during the second semester. The research proposal may be written individually or in cooperation between two students. The latter will be the case if two students are planning to do the research and write their master’s thesis together. Master’s Thesis - SNE4390 The master’s thesis should consist of an independent research work with relevance to the field of special needs education. The project should be based on the approved research proposal written as a part of the examination requirements for the SNE4230 Research Methodology course. • The thesis may be an empirical study, a theoretical, philosophical or historical study, or a combination of approaches. • Empirical studies may include educational development (e.g. school development) and/or evaluation research. Exam information Detailed information about formal and practical issues concerning the writing and delivering of the thesis will be given at the beginning of the second semester.
