  1. HIE-ISOLDE beam transfer lines magnets • LIU-SPS beam loss • Additional bumpers in LSS6 • J. Bauche, LIU-SPS beam loss WG, 12th December 2012.

  2. HIE-ISOLDE beam transfer lines magnets LIU-SPS bumper specification parameters

  3. HIE-ISOLDE beam transfer lines magnets • SPS vertical bumpers situation Proposal: manufacture 5 additional MPLV

  4. HIE-ISOLDE beam transfer lines magnets • Integration issue 61503 SSS 615 Availablelength = 860 mm SSS 421 MPLV + VC = 920 mm

  5. HIE-ISOLDE beam transfer lines magnets LIU-SPS bumper specification parameters Δ∫B.dl ≈ 18%

  6. Integration issue 61933 61933 Interference with TT60 vacuum chamber Half-cell 619 To be displaced here

  7. HIE-ISOLDE beam transfer lines magnets • Summary • Requests: • Need for 2 additional bumpers in half cells 617 and 619 • Need for stronger bumpers in 615 and 621 than present MPSV • MPSV spare situation is presently quite critical • Proposal: manufacture of 5 additional MPLV magnets as to • fulfill the LIU-SPS needs for the LSS6 scraping scheme • secure the spare situation for the long term • Integration issue in SSS 615 • Could be solved by design of more compact covers and upstream positioning of the bumper  feasibility TBC • EM cross-talk with adjacent sextupole TBC as well • Otherwise, check possibility to use present MPSV by increasing Ipeak to cover the missing 18% strength. Saturationand cooling TBC • Integration issue in SSS 619 • Could be solved by displacing downstream  feasibility TBC (optics) • Otherwise, need for new design, possibly with similar characteristics as MPLV
