What does Pressure depend on? • Pressure depends on the size of the area over which a force is distributed • The larger the area that the force is being spread over, the less pressure is exerted. • What happens to the pressure if the same force is exerted on a smaller area? ----The pressure increases
What do you think? Imagine you are designing a backpack. How could you apply information about pressure and area to backpack straps so students can carry heavy books comfortably? Having wider straps that have a larger area would exert less pressure than narrow or thinner width straps
Pressure and Area Which type of shoe would you use to keep from sinking in the snow? Snow shoes: A person wearing them is the same weight, but the snow shoes (which have a larger area) spread the weight over a larger area.
