  1. Human Body System Notes You are to write the name of the system on the front of the index card. On the back you are to write the function and the major organs / structures found within that system. Each system gets its OWN note card – do not take short cuts!

  2. Endocrine System

  3. Function: Controls body fluid balance, growth and sexual development (think hormones) • Organs / Structures: Adrenal gland, pituitary gland, thyroid glands and the pancreas (all hormones)

  4. Nervous System

  5. Function:Gathers information from the body’s environment (5 senses) and coordinates the body’s reactions to it • Organs / Structures: Brain, spinal cord and nerves

  6. Skeletal System

  7. Function:Supports and protects the body • Organs / Structures: Femur, clavicle, and ribs

  8. Circulatory System

  9. Function:Transports blood (which carries oxygen and food for the cells) throughout the body • Organs/ Structures: Heart, blood and blood vessels (arteries, veins and capillaries)

  10. Integumentary System

  11. Function: Provides a stable internal environment and protects underlying tissues. • Organs / Structures: Skin, hair and nails

  12. Lymphatic System/Immune System

  13. Function: Collects extra fluid and returns it to the blood, it also helps with getting rid of germs that can hurt you • Organs / Structures: Thymus, spleen, tonsils and lymph nodes

  14. Digestive System

  15. Function: Breaks down food to be absorbed by the body • Organs / Structures: Mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, rectum and anus. Accessory organs include: liver, pancreas and gallbladder

  16. Respiratory System

  17. Function: Takes oxygen in and lets carbon dioxide out • Organs / Structures: Nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs and alveoli

  18. Muscular System

  19. Function: Provides movement for the skeleton • Organs / Structures: Biceps, triceps and tendons

  20. Urinary System

  21. Function: Filters and removes waste fromthe blood • Organs / Structures: Kidneys, ureters, urethra, bladder and nephrons

  22. Reproductive System

  23. Function: Allows adults to produce offspring • Organs / Structures: Eggs (females), sperm (males), ovaries and testes

  24. Excretory System

  25. Function: This is a “SUPERSYSTEM” because it involves organs from several systems working together to get rid of waste from the body • Organs / Systems: - Integumentary system – skin (sweats it out) - Digestive system – liver (filters it out) - Urinary system – kidneys (pees it out) - Respiratory system – lungs (breathes it out)
