  2. MAKING IT GRAIN WITH NICHROME INTRO More than 2 billion tonnes of grains are produced across the world every year. These grains are stored at different stages of the grain distribution network from the producer to the consumer. They are usually packed in standardised Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) such as bags, silos, warehouses, and containers and even stored as stacks on the ground. Africa has its own species of rice, along with millet, sorghum, teff, maize, several varieties of wheat, and dozens of other wild grains and cereal crops. Barley, though not native, has historically been used in the cuisines and agriculture of many African nations, especially in North Africa. Crops are harvested at the completion of the growing season. The grains from the harvest need to be stored with minimum loss of quality until they are needed for human or animal consumption during the remainder of the year.
