Prerequisites, Corequisites, Advisories, Limitations on Enrollment All AboutStudent Success
P/C/A’s and LoE’s • Ensure students enter certain courses with the skills they need to succeed; • Maintain academic quality, integrity and consistency in the RCCD curriculum.
Prerequisites and Corequisites • Prerequisite – previously-enrolled course • Provides student with knowledge or skills necessary for success in a later course • Required for enrollment • Corequisite – concurrently-enrolled course • Provides student with knowledge or skills necessary for success in the concurrent course • Required for enrollment
Advisories & Limitations on Enrollment • Advisory – recommended course • Skills or knowledge may be helpful for student success • Voluntary; not required for enrollment • Limitation on Enrollment –pre-determined conditions or criteria required for enrollment • e.g., students meeting pre-reqs & co-reqs • e.g., students meeting health & safety rules
Regulations & Policies Governing P/C/A’s & LoE’s • The regulations for all California Community Colleges: Title 5 of California Education Code • The policies used to implement regs • May be developed by a college • May be adopted from Model District Policy • Developed by Chancellor’s Office Task Force • Provides for all requirements of State law
RCCD Chose Model District Policy “RCCD adopts the following policy in order to provide for the establishing, reviewing, and challenging of prerequisites, corequisites, advisories on recommended preparation, and certain limitations on enrollment in a manner consistent with law and good practice.”

College Polices and Procedures • Information in the catalog and schedule of classes • Student Challenge Process • Curriculum Review Process • Establish a Curriculum Committee – mutual agreement of administration & Academic Senate • Establish P/C/A’s & LoE’s only with • Discipline/department faculty input • Approve P/C/A’s & LoE’s separately from course
